Ace Hardware stores 20% off, bag sale is this Saturday Nov. 6th. Great time to stock up on brass and aluminum rods, tubes, and sheets. Need pin vice or a jeweler's saw? Ace is the place.

Anybody in Northern Lake County Illinois the Ace Hardware in Gurnee has some models and supplies. I believe the stores throughout the county are owned by the same family and they have had the kits for some time, might be some "oldies" in stock.

Great chance to get some bargins.

ACE Hardware in Tucson AZ. 22nd street and Kolb, has a huge model section. I wonder if they are participating?

They generally exempt the hobby shop from the Ace Hardware sales promotions. ;)

ace/university hardware in berkeley has half its basement dedicated to models and probably 2/3 if you count endless hot wheels, etc. plus all kinds of cool architectural accourtrements for all the architecture students at the univ. its a great place and you wouldnt even know they sold models from the outside. on University right where it dead ends into the university.

they usually participate in these sort of promotions and also have one or two sidewalk sales a year with big discounts.

Are people finding kits at just stores named "Ace Hardware?" There's a "Big G Ace" in my town. I've been in there a few times but didn't see any hobby items, though it is a big store so I may have missed it.

It's back. Ace Hardware stores 20% off, bag sale is this Saturday Feb 26th. Great time to stock up on brass and aluminum rods, tubes, and sheets. They also carry 8.5 x 11 styrene sheets and piano wire. Need pin vice or a jeweler's saw? Ace is the place. And they're cheaper than your LHS.

We used to have a Ace that sold models but they quit carrying them when they switched owners. The other two Ace stores used to carry models into the early 90's but quit then. I was told that they used to be big into hobby stuff. Since Ace stores are franchises the owners can choose some what what to carry hobby stuff is one of the optional things.

They've got a nice selection of kits and supporting tools, paints and even some Resin Transkits! It's the only Hobby Shop in Tucson I've been to.

It's the only one in Tucson worth going to!

You have ACE hardware stores with models in them??

Ace and True Value seem to allow the owners a ton of leeway in what they stock, to let them tailor the store to the local market. A store in the foothills / mountains will sell a lot more chainsaws and wood splitters than one in a city.

Since it looks like you are in Sacramento, Ace Hardware in Berkeley is definately worth mentioning (again). It has a nice hobby section in the basement with slotcars, trains and a good selection of models / supplies. The car models are basically the standard AMT/Revell/Lindberg, but they stock many unusual brands for the other model types including a lot of Eastern European kits. I think they also buy from estate sales because their stock of out of production kits gets added to occasionally.

Each month they offer 20% off a particular section, January (right now) is 20% off all models and model supplies. Models come around again in May or June.

There are no real hobby stores near me, but one of the True Values had a small model section for a while, and the other has a decent craft section (but no models).
