highway
Well, I finally got a chance to sit down at the model desk again, and have some to update on my big Ford. I got some BMF work done, and also cut some K&S stainless steel tubing for the stacks. I might be changing the stacks to aluminum tubing, though, because it will be easier to cut and I can also add turnouts to the top, I never have really been a fan of miter cut stacks. I also have some of the detail painting done to the frame, and mounts for the rear fenders. I also seen a nice custom truck over the weekend last week that had a very unique shifter, and while looking through another kit for a nice CB to put in here, I was reminded of this unique shifter. Here is the finished interior with the possible new shifter mocked in place. If y'all like it, it will be the new shifter! I also found these for the trailer, I think they will make nice chicken lights. Finally, a mockup of the truck as of tonight.
highway
Oh, I forgot, if anyone has any spare cab marker lights, I still need one of the lenses. I stole one from my Ford Aeromax kit to finish all 10 lights on this, so I need it for that kit now!
Clay
Highway, that looks good. I need another rig and lowboy trailer.
Nick Winter
Hey Matt if you need a CB I can find you a nice one in my CB stash (yes I do have a stash of Scale CB Radio and antenna's) Nick
cam
well guys I have not quit but work and life have been getting in the way of modeling and posting. But finally heres something to show, its been a while since taken the pics but I just have not had the time or ambition to post anything. The truck is just at the mockup point as of now, still have to clear coat before installing chrome.
highway
Hey Matt if you need a CB I can find you a nice one in my CB stash (yes I do have a stash of Scale CB Radio and antenna's) Nick Thanks, Nick. I have a few here, too, I'm just having trouble figuring out what looks right! Since I'm mounting it in the center console in the roof, I'm even thinking of finding a Cobra 29 or Galaxy face online and just using a cord and mike. Something like these, maybe! Oh, and before the radio fights start with us that have also driven the real things with everybody saying "A big truck needs a big radio like the Galaxy!", I had a Cobra 29 just like the one in the pic pushing over 40 watts! It even drowned out a buddy's Galaxy a time or two!
Nick Winter
Matt, funny enough today I was looking for something else and found a CB that's pretty close to that Cobra 29. Yours if you want it. Nick

highway
Chris, nice work on the Eagle so far! As for working, I finally sat down at the desk some more tonight, and began working on a piece of my heavy haul crew. I put the big Ford on the back burner for a little while, and the little Ford said "It's my turn!"!! I finally, after 8 years of owning the truck, got the guts (or whatever other colorful phrase you would like to use ) to start working on the model of my 1:1 F350 dually that I call "Little Red". I didn't come up with the name, it's previous owner and owner of the towing company I worked for at the time named her, and she is "Little Red" because "Big Red" was her sister, a 1984 Frieghtliner FLC! For those of you who may not have seen it before, this is the inspiration behind this project. As you can see, the biggest reason I needed some guts was to cut the Monogram cab down to a regular cab, and tonight was the night! No turning back now! All these years, and I was afraid of messing up the cab! I actually surprised myself and did it in less than a half hour, and sitting next to the AMT 92 regular cab, I think I hit it spot on! This is not going to be a true replica stock build, but I'm going to get the main truck as close to what you see in the pic, including the 6 inch gap between the bed and the cab where it has extra frame since the truck was born as a chassis cab. The stock dually bed was not added until she was rebuilt after being retired from the working life. I'm going to add stacks, a lightbar (since it is a heavy haul escort for this build, and the real one might get one someday just for fun!), and these great Alcoa wheels I got thanks to Stewart from Ma's Resin. highway
good start on the one ton Matt, do you have the outer rear fenders? Yep I do, Chris, I'm using the Monogram F350 as the base.
Clay
Ok, got a question for you truck drivers, where do you put the heaviest of your load on a flatbed? On the front or the back? Started on this yesterday. Not too much detail as this will not be the focal point of this set. I was originally going to paint it Italian Red, then I found out I don't have any... So it is going to be Huggar Orange, with the wood grain painted of course a wood color. Now for the bread and butter. I have the best thing for this. One I can actually measure and sketch. Now I can't take pictures of it. I will have progress shots of it soon. Edited April 19, 2011 by Clay
dwc43
Depends on size and weight I guess. I never drove one, but I knew several that ran coil steel like the ones included in your kit. They ran two coils right in the center of the trailer with a couple feet or so between them. Two coils came close to the 80,000 lb limit. I'm sure at times they ran over the limit too. Remember, you can always adjust the 5th wheel and trailer tandems forward and backwards to adjust the weight of the loads on the tires to an extent. Clay
Not using the coils. The shelter I am build weighs almost 14k not to mention the add on equipment packed in another container.
dwc43
Just using that as an example. Most put the load in the center. When they weigh they trucks they weight all the wheels and you are only allowed so much weight on each wheel at a total of 80,000 lbs. If you center the load it spreads the weight out more evenly. I ran both 48 and 53 ft van trailers. They were usually loaded front to back anyways, so I did not run into that too much.
highway
DW is right with what he's saying, but if each piece is only about 14,000 lbs, it really wouldn't make much of a difference because 28,000 lbs is a light load for a flatbed. I do have a little skateboarding (trucker for flatbed! ) experience, if you want to call hauling 12 foot long skids of cardboard experience, but I also have a friend who ran steel for many years. In fact, if I ever get off my lazy butt and finish it, I have the same trailer modified to a spread axle to finish for him. Anyway, the way he told me to load the three coils from the kit, and the way he loaded his real ones was to load the first in just about the same position as it shows in the box art, the second just rear of the centerline, and the third just about centered or just slightly forward of the spread in the axles I modified. As for the way the trailer is out of the kit, the box art is dead on, and just as a little extra tidbit, the way the coils are loaded on the box top are called "shotgun" and the way it is on the box side are called "suicide". Those just refer to the way the coil faces. I just happened to think of one more thing for your load, Clay. Since it is a military load, you really don't have to worry about the DOT and weights much anyway, they can't stop Uncle Sam! Clay
I've got an update, but no pictures. Got the trailer painted and the wood planks painted (that was tedious). now I have to finish putting it together and do some detail painting
Nick Winter
The new release thread reminded me, If have updated pics of the almost finished interior, the scratched area on the dash is were the lightbar controller will go. Nick which reminds me, I need to get that truck done Who knows maybe she'll be on all 6 ( ) by tonight.

stewart
I haven't given up on my van but I have not had quite enough time to work on it. Too busy with school and work. I have made a small amount of progress though. The only think that is holding me up is the doors. I have the rear doors finally installed but the hinging for the hood is a huge headache. Can't seem to get everything glued on right so the hood will open nicely. I need more patience LOL STewart

stewart
I am almost done with the build. Only major part that needs to be done now is finishing the engine and making the front suspension. I finally got the rear doors in place and I think I have figured out the hood. I also filled in the gaps around the door and interior. Still needs a little work but it is almost there. Rear suspension is almost there. Just have to install it. Here is the start of headers for the engine and the air intake. STewart
