Jantrix Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Sometimes it's funny how models can ...........evolve. Over time or just due to circumstance. You might remeber this one. Inspired by one of Cranky's rods it used a 57 Fairlane front end as a rear and had some wicked crazy headers. This is the point I'd gotten to when I set it on the shelf for more brainstorming. There were things I'd done that seemed like a good idea at the time, but after a while...................irritated me. The rear wheel openings for instance. They looked fine as a front end on the Fairlane, but reversed............not so much. And the headers.............ugh. So after some brainstorming and scratchbuilding here's where we are now. I'd really like to hear comments and critisisms on this one. I know "trucksters" have become hated by many folks, but I feel I've deviated from the average rat rod. Whatcha think?
Jantrix Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 Oh and a big thanks to Crazyjim for that primo hood ornament. Looks perfect.
plasticfrog Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I like it Alooooot... love how you did the wood bed.
Modlbldr Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I like everything with the exception of the cycle front fenders. I think that they might look better if you switch sides with them (I think that they are on backwards), angle them a little so that the brackets don't hit the tie rod, and then bob the front just a bit. I really like the cut down 50 Ford grille. It gives it that tractor grille look. BTW- you were right about the Fairlane wheel wells. That Fairlane front clip was a neat idea though. I think that it would have worked with some wheel well modification. Later-
Jantrix Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 I'm gonna rethink the fenders. Likely turn them back some.
jbwelda Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 that was my one negatory thought: didnt like the fenders like that. i would rotate them back until the first brace was horizontal and the lip of the fender at about 4 oclock. but i think the rear looks a lot better now. the fairlane front end for a rear is a cool idea but like youve concluded, it needs some work to really flow and look great. might keep it in your mind though and build another because it is a unique idea!
David G. Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Very cool truck-rod! I like the new bed and headers. Very nice work on the bed, BTW. I have to say that I agree with Modlbldr that the front fenders seem to be reversed. David G.
Jantrix Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) I have rotated the fenders backward. I'm pleased with the way they look now. Edited November 26, 2010 by Jantrix
David G. Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 A definite improvement on the front fender orientation! The closer shot better shows the front suspension detail- looks great! David G.
Modlbldr Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I agree. Those front fenders look much better now. Good to see. Later-
Dr. Cranky Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Love it, love it, love it. I never get tired of looking at models like this one. Fabulous.
