Eshaver Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 As most of you know, my actual interest is in building archectural models , doll houses and meuseuem exibits . In all of my dioramas , I have scratch built all of the accessories to portray ACCURATE items found in service stations of a given era. An up and comming resin caster has agreed to do what I send him after years of trying to find someone . My question to you Dear Model Car magazine forum members is this : What gasoline pumps, battery chargers, soda , cigarette, oil cabinet lifts , etc would be interested in . I need at least a Time frame as in what Year would you're diorama be set in ? What year cars/ trucks would you wish to display ? You can answer here , e-mail , send me hate mail or whatever ! Ed Shaver
samdiego Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) I'm thinking that the best sellers would be early 60's. That's my favorite period for Gas station stuff. Edited December 15, 2010 by samdiego
Danno Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Most of the 50's era stuff is already available from various sources. A better idea might be to focus on the 60's and maybe a little of the early 70's (muscle car era). Just my 1/50th of a buck!
jeffb Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 smbc does alot of stuff like that. they have cig machines, candy machines..theyre pretty durn good. mostly cause i did the masters
randx0 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I like early 60's also. but I also like the stuff you have done from the 30's/40's.
Eshaver Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 I can agree on the overabundence of "50's " memrobillia. I was thinking of doing some 60's period correct items . Shown here is a picture of Bennett 2000 series pumps made from 1959-1966 Ed Shaver
george 53 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The Mobil pumps ya made for me were pretty cool Ed. Those were about the late 70's early 80's maybe??? They can out GREAT! Thanks AGAIN!!!!
modelercarl Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I would like to see some stuff from '55 to '65 era. I would probably build a gas station and a dealership if the right stuff were available.
disabled modeler Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 60s to mid 70s for me,theres been 50s stuff out already...besides I think Eds work is better .
whale392 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 1980s-contemporary would work. No one really does anything modern, and a 1980s-1990s auto at a 1950s-60s gas pump is out of timeframe.
peter31a Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 For me, I'd be looking for items from 20's to the 40's-50's. Model T, Model A era into early hot rod era.
ra7c7er Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I like a little of everything from the very early days to modern stuff. I would like to see some modern pumps and things being made to dio a modern day garage/gas station. But I also would like to see a lot of early things too. Really I don't think you could go wrong just making stuff that isn't already out there. 60's or later and 40's or earlier. Or even making better quality pieces of what is available. Just keep your quality up and no matter what you make you will find yourself with customers.
Wagoneer81 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I'm thinking like you, Ed... '60's era pieces are definitely needed. More examples from the '60's survived into the '70's and early '80's than did from the '50's, those pumps in your picture, for example... I remember my Dad pulling up beside similar pumps back about '78 or so. I think this would cover a broader timeline than older accessories.
Eshaver Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Thank You to everyone that took a moment to the question I proposed yesterday. I actually have several middle to late 1960's pieces ready to be sent to the gentleman to cast . Hopefully , we will all see some results very soon . Ed Shaver
Eshaver Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Donnie, the Fry "Maye West" is doable although R & D Unique actually did one several years ago. The Wayne "Roman " 290, whew........... in all my years as a pump guy , Ive yet to reallly see good enough photographs in which to do all the scroll work off of . Heres one of my Fry #117's I did a few years back , it's a 10 gallon as a Pan-Am , now AmocoBP: Same model as a 5 gallon next to a Butler #62 in the back ground Ed Shaver Edited December 16, 2010 by Eshaver
