Wonderful work, Darren, but I wish you'd paint the thing already. How much more can you do to this build?

I think that Im still apprehensive about how to go about painting it so a mental block for me is to keep adding stuff and details to it.....................

It looks great, Darren. Don't forget - SHINY :) :) :) RULES!

Yeah thats the original vision, but adding all the dead stuff im really torn which way to go on the paint

just my opinion but i think the paint should look all worn out as if its just come out from the deapths of hell ... but its your model so your call... either way she gonna look freaking mental when you get her done... excelent work so far your car will be well is in a league of its own !!!!!!

Darren,

Frequently, projects tend to change and evolve as we work on them; they sometimes take on a life of their own. I would say that this truck of yours fits into that category. So when it comes time to decide on how to paint it, let it speak to you as it has all along. Rusty and crusty or shiny and sparkly, do what's right for the build. Don't ever limit yourself! ...though I don't think you really have a problem in that area... :)

Regards,

David G.

Darren you have 6 days to paint and button this one up and enter it in the supernationals show! ;-) that's my motivation to finish my year long projects!

Thank you for all your comments, that is the biggest debate, rusted and weathered would be the natural way to go with this build, problem is I have never even tried a weathered model and am intimidated by the thought of turning out a horrible looking weathered vehicle, but may have to learn how on this one. Mr.Camaro I can tell you that its not gonna happen this year for super nats, but hopefully will happen next year thought................

Don't let it intimidate you. Try some techniqes on a spare body then go for it.

Here was my first attempt at weathering.

man that looks good, totally kick ass on the bus Kingtoy, see even with that much weathering my truck would make sense. Is there any one source (book, dvd, website, technique) that taught you how to do that?

Well once one of the members of the club I belong to did a seminar and I picked up a few things. I also talked to several guys that did it all the time and got what some of the basic techniques are.

Basically all I did was use a dremel on slow on the inside of the body till you start to get thin and burn through. Then take a sharp xacto knife and break it up and make it jagged.

Next i got a box of earth tones chalk from Hobby Lobby, gound them down to powders and put them in little containers. Then I just covered the hole and what spots I wanted to look rusty with flat clear and took a dry brush and dabbed on the powder and blew off the excess. Some places I just dry brushed on the powder as hard as I could and didn't blow it off.

On the bus on the top the old electrical tape is blue painters tape cut in thin strips and painted silver. The plumbers foil tape on the window is chrome foil also cut in small strips.

Just a little work done on the top of the casket to smooth it out and cover the foam.

also decided to fill the holes for the axle sense I have to lower the fenders so that the lid will open on the casket, to get the detail in the missing hole did a silly putty mold and filled that mold with epoxy resin and cut to fit, just need to clean it up a bit.

working on finishing the trailer, glued the frame to the bottom of the casket and mocked up the fenders in the direction that they will go in.
