Darren B Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 modifying the fenders now..................
crazyjim Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Wonderful work, Darren, but I wish you'd paint the thing already. How much more can you do to this build?
Darren B Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Wonderful work, Darren, but I wish you'd paint the thing already. How much more can you do to this build? I think that Im still apprehensive about how to go about painting it so a mental block for me is to keep adding stuff and details to it.....................
crazyjim Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 It looks great, Darren. Don't forget - SHINY :) RULES!
Darren B Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 It looks great, Darren. Don't forget - SHINY :) RULES! Yeah thats the original vision, but adding all the dead stuff im really torn which way to go on the paint
crazyjim Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Has to be some trick paint, Darren. Who ever heard of a rusty, crusty lowrider?
stulee11 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 just my opinion but i think the paint should look all worn out as if its just come out from the deapths of hell ... but its your model so your call... either way she gonna look freaking mental when you get her done... excelent work so far your car will be well is in a league of its own !!!!!!
David G. Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Darren, Frequently, projects tend to change and evolve as we work on them; they sometimes take on a life of their own. I would say that this truck of yours fits into that category. So when it comes time to decide on how to paint it, let it speak to you as it has all along. Rusty and crusty or shiny and sparkly, do what's right for the build. Don't ever limit yourself! ...though I don't think you really have a problem in that area... Regards, David G.
kingtoy Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 WOW!!!! Reading this thread is just incredible. I can't wait to see this thing finished.
mr.camaro Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Darren you have 6 days to paint and button this one up and enter it in the supernationals show! ;-) that's my motivation to finish my year long projects!
Darren B Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Thank you for all your comments, that is the biggest debate, rusted and weathered would be the natural way to go with this build, problem is I have never even tried a weathered model and am intimidated by the thought of turning out a horrible looking weathered vehicle, but may have to learn how on this one. Mr.Camaro I can tell you that its not gonna happen this year for super nats, but hopefully will happen next year thought................
kingtoy Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Don't let it intimidate you. Try some techniqes on a spare body then go for it. Here was my first attempt at weathering.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Nice hinges, and boy the fellow in the there is going to travel in style down the highway.

Here was my first attempt at weathering. man that looks good, totally kick ass on the bus Kingtoy, see even with that much weathering my truck would make sense. Is there any one source (book, dvd, website, technique) that taught you how to do that? Edited January 26, 2012 by Darren B
kingtoy Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Well once one of the members of the club I belong to did a seminar and I picked up a few things. I also talked to several guys that did it all the time and got what some of the basic techniques are. Basically all I did was use a dremel on slow on the inside of the body till you start to get thin and burn through. Then take a sharp xacto knife and break it up and make it jagged. Next i got a box of earth tones chalk from Hobby Lobby, gound them down to powders and put them in little containers. Then I just covered the hole and what spots I wanted to look rusty with flat clear and took a dry brush and dabbed on the powder and blew off the excess. Some places I just dry brushed on the powder as hard as I could and didn't blow it off. On the bus on the top the old electrical tape is blue painters tape cut in thin strips and painted silver. The plumbers foil tape on the window is chrome foil also cut in small strips.

Darren B Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 cool im gonna give it a shot thank you
Darren B Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 Just a little work done on the top of the casket to smooth it out and cover the foam. also decided to fill the holes for the axle sense I have to lower the fenders so that the lid will open on the casket, to get the detail in the missing hole did a silly putty mold and filled that mold with epoxy resin and cut to fit, just need to clean it up a bit.
Darren B Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 working on finishing the trailer, glued the frame to the bottom of the casket and mocked up the fenders in the direction that they will go in.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Some cool progress and pictures of weathering solutions. That van is absolutely wonderful. Puts a smile on EYEGORE!
Darren B Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Just a small update got the top of the casket almost finished, one more coat of putty and a finish sanding should be ready, now to button tuft the interior.
Stephen H Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Darren I have had atleast 2 nightmares with this truck in it LOL. Can't wait to see the end product. Keep it coming this truck is insane
Darren B Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Haven't been able to touch this thing for a while in the middle of a big move but itching to get back into it so hopefully soon i can get back to this one.
