Considering some of the Revell kits are retailing at 25.00 and tax, that means I think that translates to about 300.00 and tax . Considering that most of you arent wholesale vendors and so many are barely making ends meet , how many of you are "Blowing smoke " and how many actually have that kind of disposable income ? Ed Shaver I never have bought a case of kits and don't really have the extra cash to do that kind of thing... Although with the upcoming release of the Mobieus Hudson, I already told my LHS that I do want a case of them. He thinks I am kiding but, this is no joke, that car is just too sweet and too many ways to build it...
Guest Johnny Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I choose to stay married and buying models case at a time would give her grounds for the D word! Even when I had the means to do so I was never inclined. I probably have a case worth of 90's Pontiac Nascars but all bout off ebay for a little of nothing at the time.(paid as little as 6.99 shipped for some) but to build various cars using aftermarket decals! Most people I have known buying by the case were builder/collectors that held X amount for building, X amount to save and X amount for future resale after production ended and they could turn a profit on them! Some buy multiple for as we seen demonstrated to build various versions of the same car. In the Nascars to build race specific cars of the same driver!
Foxer Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Buying more than one of ANY kit has never entered my mind. There are way too many kits I'd like to spend my money on. And, money is not an issue for me ... it's more just seeing whats inside that OTHER box that drives it. There are a few instances where I've bough more than one of a kit, buts that after I did something to destroy the one I had .. like spraying lacquer on a bare body!

Johnny, it's not grounds for the D word if you buy a little something for her, too! That's worked for me many times! My better half likes anything John Deere, and as long as I bought her something with a little green tractor, she didn't care if I spent a couple hundred dollars on kits. As for the NASCAR models, I've probably got almost 2 cases (not all bought at the same time) of Dale Earnhardt Sr models, many of them just to build various versions of his cars. Since I also drove tow trucks at one time, I also have 3 complete Revell Midnight Cowboy Wreckers to either build custom wreckers from, or just to use the bed for other wreckers. I've also got parts from at least 3 other Cowboy kits for various builds.
whale392 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 To stay on topic Ed, and to answer your question from my particular circumstance; after talking with Ed Sexton at Toledo NNL this year and finding out that they ARE working on (and moving forward with research for) a FOX Mustang Coupe model (all-new tool in 1/25th), I have been putting a little of each paycheck away as a 'buy this kit' fund. Working with Revell on this kit (as little input as Ed asks me for/I put in) and owning 4 real FOX Mustangs, this kit will be near and dear to my heart (and therefore, my wallet). I WILL have the money saved for a case of them, and have asked ED if I can purchase the FIRST case and have it sent directly to me when it ships. He laughed a little, until he realized I was/am dead serious. Planning ahead and saving for it will make it feasable for me to purchase the case. Oh, and I have a case of the 1992 Mustang GT converts, as well as 40 other Foxes from Revell/Monogram and AMT/MPC.
charlie8575 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I came pretty darn close. Many years ago, Wal-Mart was clearing out '41 Plymouths for like $4 each. They had three. They didn't about five minutes later. Charlie Larkin
sobpinstriping Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Their are a few kits I would love to buy multiples of but thier are so many kits out thier that I want to build it would be hard for me to buy the same kit over. I also don't have a large budget for kits at this time (hopefully that changes because I just got a new job about and hour ago!). If they ever relase a 65 or 66 f-100 I will buy atleast 3 of those but thats only because I have a 56 f-100.
Nova-ss Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I've never bbought a case of any one kit....like most of ya.I have many but only because of collecting them over years and buying only when deals are there.I know many guys who do buy cases of them and they get a really good break on them....cause unless your business is a hobby shop, you couldn't afford it....prices these day are insane.but that is how alot of the people that have a case bought at one time do it.thanks,Chris
Craig Irwin Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 About 12-14 years ago I bought 12 AMT 69 GTX kits at once from a wholesaler but they wern't in a case. Donor kits for older Mopar kits. I've bought so many Revell 69 Camaro kits I can't count them, but never more than 2 or 3 at a time.
Chuck Most Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I've built about fifteen Ertl Scout kits, even though its a lousy kit. I guess I just love the 1:1 that much!
Rob Hall Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 And it's not just w/ kits I've bought new..over the years I've managed to end up w/ the multiples of some old, long out of production kits...like 2 AMT '60 Starliners, 2 AMT '61 Galaxie Sunliners, 2 '61 Mercury convertibles, AMT '67 Cougars, 2 '68 Cougars, 3 '67 Rivieras, 2 '68 Thunderbirds, 2 '65 and '66 Cadillac Coupe De Villes, 3 '66 Cadillac Ambulances, 2 MPC '71 Impalas, 2 MPC '73 Caprices, 3 '74 Caprices, 3 '75 Caprices, 2 '76 Caprices, for example...some builtups, some minty. It seems I can never have too many old AMTs, MPCs, and Johans..
Sport Suburban Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I'm with most of you. I have never bought a case at one time. I have collected multiples over time either when I thought of projects for them or for donor's. I too have nine Revell 69 Camaro's unbuilt and three built. I have five AMT 71 Dusters untouched. One 71 Duster built and three that gave up chassis and engines for other mopars. I love mopar E bodies so I have four Revell 71 Cuda's unbuilt and six built. One new tool 70 AAR and three old tool 70 AAR's (one built). I have four unbuilt Revell 70 Challengers plus two of those built. Then comes the AMT's 70 Challenger's. I have three that are built and I have four unbuilt that are donors for some older MPC Challengers and Cuda's. I will need more of those AMT 70 Challengers as I have more resin bodies and old MPC E body kits to build!

I really don`t have much disposable income though. I just keep my eyes out for deals on that kit. It is a great kit, and being 1/12 doesn`t hurt. Plus, combining it with the Camaro kit gives you lots of options. This and the Camaro kit are the only ones I really "collect" (maybe "hoard" is a better word) though. Sorry to quote the pics, but these deserve another look. These are truly awesome builds. The job on these is incredible. Two or three of the same model is sufficient for me. I bought a case (6) of Amt haulers only cause the deal was good. I have been tempted with some of the new releases but there are so many at any given time I want. Rather have a single of ten than ten of a single.
Modelmartin Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 In the early 80s I bought a case each of Monogram's new Pro stock kits and split each one with a friend so I ended up with 2 cases with 6 of each kit. After a few years I thought that they would never become collectable so I sold them all! I bought them a few at a time but I have about 20 Tamiya Minis and about 7 Fujimi Minis.
2000-cvpi Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Just like others have posted I have bought enough multiples of one kit to make up a case (AMT 36 Ford, Revell 32 Ford). I did buy a case (more like 12) of NASCAR kits, but they were on clearance for two dollars a kit at a weird discount store in the Upper Peninsula. My family and I were on vacation at the time and I wanted to buy more but there was not enough room in our car for more.
Darin Bastedo Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Generally when I say i would "buy a case of them" usually i mean over time, since I would get bored building the same kit 6 times in a row, it would be wastefull to buy them all at once. there are exceptions though especially with the limited run kits like; 12x AMT Model King Open road camper 6x AMT Model King 59 Imperial 6x Revell SSP 41 willys pick-up gasser Then over the years there have been many kits I've bought more than a case worth over the years. Revell 1993 Camaro pace car AMT 1972 Nova "Old Pro" Revell / Monogram 427 cobra AMT 289 Cobra Monogram T-bird and Camaro Pro stock kits from the 80's AMT 1949 Merc AMT 1932 fords (all variations) Revell 1932 Fords (all variations) Revell 1968 -69 vettes (all variations) There are many more but you get my point. will I buy a case of the new Hudson hornet? perhaps but not all at once. as far as disposable income goes I'm not rich but my hobby is cheap in comparison to others a new release DVD costs about the same as one model kit now.
ra7c7er Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) A friend of mine just recently reminded me that back when we both worked at a hobby shop a guy ordered 36 of the Galaxie Limited 21 ft trailers and 18 each of the 36 ft trailers in tow behind and goose neck. I worked as the receiver for the shop and I remember getting them in but I don't remember if they were cases of 6 each or 12 each. Since the kits cost 25 each the total retail cost was $1,800 before tax. I think he got a discount it was either 15 or 20% but the sale was still over $1,500. The buyer was a new customer and never did tell anyone why he wanted so many of them. Galaxie even told us it was the largest single non-internet retailer order they had.
