Railfreak78 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Hey guys and gals. I'm calling this one done now. It's not the over board hot rod I set out to do but I'm kinda glad I did it this way. I actually need to re-route the exhaust and do some touch up on the bottom but nobody is going to see that anyway. This kit had really bad mold lines that made me have to do A lot of body work. That led to a good side and a bad side of the finished car cause I was impatient. I did do a few things to it though and like the overall car. Paint is Duplicolor Truck/Van&Suv T148 Dark Blue. Enjoy! Few Extras: 1. Opened the doors up with an X-acto 2. Wing windows are made from toy packaging 3. Detail master and bead wire for engine detail 4. Resin Accel performance coil 5. Clean window look but BMF on interior including trim on the wood floor.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Wow, nice clean model. The open doors are the perfect touch, and that engine bay is fabulous. Congrats.
george 53 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I TOTALLY agree with Virge. A REAL nice build. The open doors look GREAT! You did a NICE job on this ol rascal! ;)
Peter Lombardo Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Brian, very nice job....the blue is a nice "calm" color on this and it sets the wagon off nicely. I love the opening doors and rear....I like to open doors whenever I can. I would, if you don't mind, like to suggest one little addition that could help this very much. Looking at the second picture.......looking through the open engine compartment, you see way too much "daylight" coming from the open passenger door. I would recommend that you insert a piece of plastic painted flat black at the firewall area, both left and right side, so there is a "wall" completely between the engine bay and interior. But other than that, this is a very well done build.
charlie8575 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 It's good to see that this kit can be built quasi-stock. I've toyed with finding the right running gear and sticking a stock chassis/engine into it and running with it. Nice job on this, Brian. Charlie Larkin
lizzard Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Thats a sweet ride , always liked the 54 , Heres mine
Railfreak78 Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Thank you for the comments everyone. I appreciate it. Peter, I think I'm going to do that as it's really bugging me. I think I'm going to cut some styrene and even seal the small gap above the coil. It's been eating at me when I left the post and went to the store. David , Nice truck! I do think with a few more things like hub caps and such this kit could be built stock. Maybe an inline 6 engine? More BMF would help a stock look. This one here was originally going to look like the wild one here in the following picture minus the company name but I didn't have time. So I went semi-custom Here is the box to so you guys know which one can be almost stock. The kit came with interior door panels and some not so good hinges but the body was sealed and needed to be opened.
walt francis Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I have to give a big THUMBS UP !!!! on your build, but now I want to get mine done ....Thanks for the push.
vaughn Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 That looks great Brian. Love the opened doors. Am I seeing things ? Picture no. 6. The seperation between the body and dashboard. But looks great.
W-409 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Nice, that would be nice on my room too! Great color, I like it and that paintjob looks good too. Engine is very nice, and detailing is amazing. That wooden floor looks very nice in the "trunk" and interior work is nice too. This is one must have kit too, but I have maybe too much them... Anyways this one looks very good.
Guest Johnny Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I like it! This is a kit you rarely see finished! You have done a great job on a rather tricky model to build! I had one finished that was stolen along with dozens of other models years ago. I have one now that I saved from the trash. A friend painted it an ugly beige and never finished it. Was over visiting and saw it in his trash when I drove behind his garage! I need to hit the purple pond with it and see what I can do with it! Been looking for the 2 door sedan version to try and make into a 4 door like my first car! You don't happen to have the Chevy Emblem off the hood do you? That is the only thing that is missing from mine!
Scalper Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Nice.. seeing this makes me wish that I finished this kit.
Railfreak78 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 You don't happen to have the Chevy Emblem off the hood do you? That is the only thing that is missing from mine! Hey Johnny I think I have the emblem. I'll look tonight. I had to work so I taped the football game I wanted to watch and I'll look after
Railfreak78 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 Thanks to Everyone for the comments. It means a lot to me. I'm glad you guys liked it. Here is a pic from the meeting with some styrene added to the engine compartment to block off that big gap. It was a great suggestion Peter L.
John Teresi Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Brian......you should be proud of this build.......turned out AWESOME man......color and detail are Great.
MikeeD Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I know what you mean about the bad body molding on this kit. I have one on the back burner that has the same problem. It looks like the car is off about 1" side to side with the drivers side being the worse. I'm doing mine gasser style and hiding the bad body work under satin black paint...lol. Yours came out fine, I like it alot. There's just something about those old station/delivery wagons.
dimaxion Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Looks good. Excellent color choice. Quite a done build . Just right . The blue fits this well . Excellent finish . Not garished up with decorations . IMHO . Johnny ; I had one of these stolen along with dozens of other kits in 2005 . The Emblem for the hood and trunk is best sourced from the Revelle '56 Chevy . I still have two of the sedans to make into Factory Stock '53 & '54 . Another stalled pair of projects .
Guest Johnny Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Found yhis online last night! I don't know who the builder is but he sure did an outstanding job concidering what he had to work with as far as the kit! http://resinrealm.ne...vy/54chevy.html
ajulia Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hello there friend! This panel looks down right mean and loud too! Gotta love a dark blue delivery!! Keep on wit the keepin on! thanks for sharing
Railfreak78 Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Thanks once again everyone. Hey Johhny that stock one is NICE! I did some digging and this car did not have the front hood emblem. Sorry I certainly will keep my eyes open for another one of these. I'm glad you guys liked this one
