What would it take to get Revell or AMT on board?

An Act of Congress, A Genie and Major help from the Big Kahuna.

Not Gregg but it couldn't hurt either :P

What?

To produce a kit like that with all those bits?

Never happen because it's too logical, not to mention the high cost to produce. Plus half the pundits on this board would argue that SOMETHING was wrong or incorrect citing themselves to be experts in the field. :P

But, we can still dream.... *sigh*

Boy Jairus, you are such a cynic!!!! (I happen to agree with you, though) B)

Peter,

I like to think of myself as a "realist" but whatever. :P

Incidentally I sent a link for this thread to the product director of AMT.

My thoughts EXACTLY !

I think kits like this could sell (ones with different building options)but now that regular kits are in the $25 price range, what would be the tipping point on something like this?

I suspect that is why we get a lot of re-issues and then wait for the resin casters to make the pieces for other versions.

It would be $75 and they would have to sell 100,000 copies to break even and they wont. Then they will say see I told you so, and never listen to us again.

Cool idea but I suspect there is some bean counter reason they have done away with all the 3 in 1s and extras in kits. They have figured that is more profitable to do one kit and slightly modify it with something different and sell it as a completely different kit.

Revell's new Nova is a perfect example.

So I'd suspect they would want to do a series of 5 slightly different kits rather than a cool little kit like this.

I am quite frankly tired of trying to convience model companies to make anything any more.

It's all about the bottom line you don't see 3 in ones anymore because the companies don't want to put that much in kits anymore they could and sell them for the same price if they wanted too but they make more leaving it out. It's as simple as that. They are not going to give us extra when they can leave it out and still charge the same.

Why not try to convince a resin caster instead? Much smaller investment for "tooling", much smaller number of kits would need to be sold. Much more likely to happen , especially if several investors step up with 50 bucks for their kit beforehand.

On another forum, several people have expressed interest in a 1/8 scale '34 Ford 3-window body. It looks like a few guys will invest and get their copies first. I'm one of the original investors in a 1/8 scale '71 Barracuda kit.

To be perfectly honest. As much as I like resin, and I have thousands of dollars in resin, I like plastic better.

I'd probably pass on the resin version of this, but I would be all in on a plastic kit.

And it's not even really my thing. I like sports cars, Le Mans, Prototypes, and Classics, but this is kind of cool and I don't have a street rod in all of my 400 kit collection.

I posted that in the "What is your dream model kit" topic. It makes me wish for the return of ALL the Revell parts packs. As an aside, has anyone seen teh GMP ( I think ) 32 Ford Roadster kit? I know its 1/18, and diescast, but its got a bunch of cool traditional option, wheels and tires, exhaust, carburetion. I foudn one on Ebay, but cant locate it now. I reminds me of this Allison drawing.

"I posted that in the "What is your dream model kit" topic" Yes you did Glenn,I thought it was so cool it needed some coverage all it's own. Thank you for posting it first. The GMP is cool and maybe an indication on where the price would be on the Allison. Your thoughts on the parts packs are good as well. That would be a great chance for Revell to trump AMT's Double Dragster tin and Double Tee. Just think about all the possibility's Revell has with their parts packs, engines, body's wheels and tires.:)

Well, Greg we seem to think alike! I didnt realize that GMP was also available in a coupe. I'm almost thinking of buying one, the pics looks so cool. I have accumulated some of the Revell parts packs off ebay, including both verssion sof the roadster frame. I think that Replicas and Miniatures make some resin recasts of Revell's roadster speed equipment, but Im not sure. I know we wont ever see a kit as cool as the Allison drawing, but one can dream, eh?

I dream for a plastic Porsche 550 RS Spyder ever day.

You know, after looking at the picture again, and hearing what everyone is saying, the simplest thing to do here, especially for Revell, would be to produce some of the "options" from this kit, such as the bubbletop, one or two of the custom grilles, a set or two of the wheels and short fenders and engine "toppers" options and market it as a "dress up" kit or options for a number of their '32 Ford kits. Think about it, guys would buy the dress up kit and many would have to purchase more of the '32, roadster, 3 and 5 window coupes and even the sedans....it would be a win-win for Revell without a huge tooling cost.....don't re-do what is already done, just enhance it. Just sayin'. ;);)

What would i do for a kit like that? Hmm, i would do terrible, violent things, and sell several close family members into slavery, if it would get me a kit with all those bits in it.
