Guest Markus355 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 i say leave the frame as-is chuck. I dig this build, and hereby forbid you to do anything else untill this sucker is done! You dont eat, you dont sleep. you do nothing but build! understood?
Hattley Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 It's lookin' good so far! I watcing this build!!
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 I'll have some updates on it in the next couple of hours.
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Most recent updates- Toying around with a 4.0 V6 and 5-speed from a '93 Ranger... Made up a floorboard, and cut down a seat from a '53 Studebaker to fit... And made up a trunk from a cut-down, junk '63 Olds body...
diymirage Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 missed it by "that" much but no ford engine will roast those hides what you need my friend is a desoto hemi that would be perfect for the feel and power of this baby
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Oh, a Ford 460 would roast 'em just fine! I like the 4.0 precisely because it's the last thing you'd expect to see in a hot rod. That and I like to turn the 'Chevy In A Ford' table every so often!
diymirage Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 by that logic you should go all out and slap a japanese inline 6 turbo in it something found in a supra or a nissan
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 I actually thought of using the turbo I-6 from the AMT Supra. Trouble is, the way I have this thing set up, there wouldn't be enough room, lengthwise, to fit it and still wedge in a radiator and grille, and I'm far too lazy to blow the thing back apart and redo it!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, it's another winner. I had been following your progress at your Fotki, and I am glad you got it over on the forum. Cheers, now build one every month!

Jantrix Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 This is coming along great, but the "junk" Johan 63 Olds has me depressed.
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Hold yer horses, Mirage! I've got a really neat application for that Supra mill coming up later on... This is coming along great, but the "junk" Johan 63 Olds has me depressed. Don't feel too bad, Rob. The part of the Olds I used was about the only savable part of the kit (though calling what was left of it a 'kit' is quite a stretch). Looked like somebody had used it as a t-ball at some point.
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 A belated update, as I actuallly did the rear window last night... And, after cobbling up a crossmember, and doing some wiring, assembly, and basic detailing, the 4.0 is in place... Here's where the piston shifter comes into play, and it's mounted in the boot from a Pro Street Super Bee kit (Thanks, Eric!).
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 I wanted to get the cab permanently mounted tonight, and mission accomplished! But first, I needed a dash. I decided against the original '53 Stude dash, because it looks so cool and would be so impossible to see in the Chevy cab. (I'd originally been leaning toward an open body when I started this build). So, I dug out a '40 Willys dash and hacked it to fit. I also dug out a '78 Monte Carlo wheel and column. Once that was completed and installed in the cab, I was able to get the cab in place. I also did a little work on the engine- added three carbs with a leveling block, an alternator and bracket, and of course a belt/pulley casting, and I had to move my voltage regulator down and to the driver's side to clear the engine. A Ford Ranger engine has never looked so mean!
Cobrawannabe Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 LOVE the use of a carbureted Cologne in this build! I'm assuming those are Holley/Stromberg/Demon 94s?
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 I believe they're Stromberg 97s. They came from the AMT '32 Ford 5-window. Like I was gonna go with EFI, right?
ajulia Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hello there fella! awesome weathering on the cab! really love the colors used and the miller decal! Keep on wit the keepin on! O! by the way! that chassis looks good restored and the shell left as is.. ok im done now!
Draggon Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I must say, thats really cool, Chuck. You sure have a unique style! I look forward to your posts.
Chuck Most Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Now it's got some junk for a trunk!
Chuck Most Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 Anyone up for a blazing rendition of "In A Gadda De Vita"? (Yeah, spelling is way off...)
LAone Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 this one screams with character. awesome build bud
Foxer Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Oh my! I love that engine ... all those ribs on it and such. I was afraid of the Olds piece for awhile, but now with the photos .. it's PERFECT! .. Olds was always a dice roll ..
Chuck Most Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Well...next time you see this road-wart, she'll be in Under Glass!
