tuffone20 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I built this one the 1st time about 30 plus years ago!!! I got it out a few weeks ago and took it a part and re-did the interior, chassis & motor. I left the paint alone as it wasn't that bad and just cleaned it up some and did some BMF on it. I think it looks pretty good for being as old as it is!!
publicsafety Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Wow, looks amazing. Can't believe its that old!
george 53 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 WoW! now that's a REALLY nice clean build! Looks pretty good for being as old as she is!!! The wide whites are cool too.
tuffone20 Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Thanks guys!! It was fun to bring this one back from the dead. I used One Shot sign painters paint for the white walls. Check out what I did with a photo of this '57 Chevy and my Kustom '57 Chevy.. Two 57's Chevy's
oldscool Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Another nice one! Is that the old Testors turquoise spray paint? Those old AMT 57s were great kits weren't they. oldscool
Dr. Cranky Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Isn't that beautiful, that stuff you built way back when is still in your possession. And it looks great too!
Sam Cates Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Thanks guys!! It was fun to bring this one back from the dead. I used One Shot sign painters paint for the white walls. Check out what I did with a photo of this '57 Chevy and my Kustom '57 Chevy.. Two 57's Chevy's That is a sweet looking 57, amazing job, but how did you make that photo changing deally?
tuffone20 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 That is a sweet looking 57, amazing job, but how did you make that photo changing deally? I took a photo of each model in the same spot and then used a mouseover effect which brings the other photo up when you move your mouse over it. Thanks!! Marty
tuffone20 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Another nice one! Is that the old Testors turquoise spray paint? Those old AMT 57s were great kits weren't they. oldscool Thanks and yes that is the paint I used on this one and it has really held up over the years, of course it's been packed away for some 20 plus years so that helped.
crazyjim Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 There's a shot - and a SAVE!!! Looking good.
TheCat Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 AWESOME job on the restoration. No one would believe that it's 30+ years old.
tuffone20 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Isn't that beautiful, that stuff you built way back when is still in your possession. And it looks great too! Thanks Virgil!! I have around 8 models from around that time frame that look pretty good after all that time and then maybe another 6 that have seen better days....... And some of those are ones I built when I was much younger.
carrucha Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Nice job on the rebuild. Those mag wheels look nice with wide white walls. I never would have considered that combo. I built that same kit in 1993 when I first started building model car kits and it is due for a rebuild.
bigmikevee Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Hey Marty, Looks great, your photography sure does your hard work justice. Wish I had some of the older models I built, didn't manage to hang on to them. Lemme see, looks like the ones I am building now will need refreshing about every 30 years or so? Thanks for the schedule, and thanks for posting such a great '57. Mike
