Joe Handley Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 If you're going to put that much effort into woodwork, why not just finish the bodywork and paint the thing too
Jon Cole Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 If you're going to put that much effort into woodwork, why not just finish the bodywork and paint the thing too Absolutely. The builder is trying to have it both ways... beautiful woodwork, lousy metalwork. It makes no sense. What is their point? Rat, for the sake of crude? Oh, I say "rat" only because I cannot think of a better term... but that is no "rat", even if I ignore the woodwork.
trogdor Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 For a minute I thought count chuckula created another one
trey allen Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I do like it, and I agree that they should have finished the metal on it. However, I'd be more than happy to call it a rat. Looks like the front axle is on top of the frame. Huge no-no. Given the space, I'd assume its running quarter elliptical springs, which I like the idea of. My feelings on this car are confused!
Casey Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Why add a sunvisor only to drill holes in it to allow the sun to shine through it? I'm all for quality craftsmanship and original ideas, but Rat Rods are a lot like some show-car Pro Streeters as far as driveability is concerned...and we know how the Pro Street thing came crashing down.
trey allen Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 after driving a chopped car with a visor, the holes would be nice. its hard to see sometimes.

sobpinstriping Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Give it a few more years and people will be fixing all theis rat rods into real hot rods or whatever is cool at the time and people will make fun of them like people make fun of easter egg paint jobs. rust is the new pastel
Chuck Most Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Kind of inconsistent with the quality, and what's up with the shape of those door windows? Still, I'd rather see one of these than another parking lot full of red '57 Chevys and first-gen Camaros.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Sometimes rat rods try too hard . . . although there are things in this one I like.
MikeMc Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 http://www.myrideisme.com/Blog/homebuilt-woodie-to-sweet-to-be-a-rat/ Here is the story...
RodneyBad Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Ya, That's about what I figured. He is a WoodCrafter. Soo on that note, it is a nice HotRod for a WoodWorker..
seeker589 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I like it. The neglected steel are in great juxtaposition to the carefully built and finished wood body and the detailed motor. I wouldn't even call it a Rat-Rod The only thing ratty about it is the unfinished metal. The build shows great planning, proportions, and execution. To me RatRods don't exhibit that kind of execution. my two cents.
paul alflen Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) IT LOOKS LIKE HE USED A OLD WOOD KITCHEN TABLE FOR THE BODY! Edited February 7, 2011 by paul alflen
Guest Johnny Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Wow! Tough crowd! If he likes it who cares! I think it is a sweet looking rod myself! Nothing the matter with different!
kerc Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I would've left all metal surfaces in a brushed bare finish. That would've contrasted nicely with the wood!
jbwelda Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 >I would've left all metal surfaces in a brushed bare finish. i think about 30 minutes with a fine bead blaster and you would be there! i think its pretty kool myself. how can you hate on anything with those halibrand style front wheels? maybe ditch the grille though.
Harry P. Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Why add a sunvisor only to drill holes in it to allow the sun to shine through it? That is a great question!
kerc Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 That is a great question! So that you can confirm that the visor is blocking the Sun, by seeing it through the holes.

Chuck Most Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I LOVE doing that! Always love seeing old geezers get riled up over absolutely nothing (and the HAMB is about 60%) old geezers. My policy over there is 'never participate in a thread unless I'm 90% sure it'll be deleted before noon!
