Foxer Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Magnificent! Those are some clean solder joints ... me and solder never got along. Spectacular work on that frame I must say!
MikeMc Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Thats the "Rat RIO" ..totally bitchin and kool.....I got the bug too...but I don't have enough time for the brass route. Are you using Tix solder??
Alyn Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Great project. I especially like your work on the steering links. Surprised you didn't build the front axle in brass as well.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 You are really hitting the ball out of the park over and over with this one. What an amazing job of scratch-building, and in METAL! Can't wait to see more. Doctor Cranky is Happy, Happy, Happy.
Art Laski Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 That's killer work! Can't wait to see it done.
parki Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Ooh, I'm liking this! thats some awesome craftsmanship you got goin on there. I can't wait to see more on this one
Randy D Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Mike, Thank you for the comment, I wish all my joints were clean, just showing the good ones! Hi Mike, Using silver solder and nasty old paste flux that has lasted me forever. Tom, Glad you like it! Alyn, Thank you , did not have a big enough piece of stock for that dude! Thanks Virgil!!! Art, Thanks, it could be awhile. Adam , Thanks! Small update as I am still working on the front end...
VW Dave Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 OMG. I agree. It's almost a shame to paint/weather all that stuff and hide it under a channeled body.
shucky Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 That is some of the most beautiful scratch building I've seen. Wonderful job! Cant wait to see more.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I know, I know what you are working on here, what it is called: ART What a beautiful frame!
Pete J. Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Wow! Really nice work. I know it is a rat rod but just curious, with all the soldering that you are doing and the burn marks on the bench, have you considered investing in a resistance soldering unit? I know that they are expensive, but since I bought mine, I have really fallen in love with it. It is quick, precise and makes it easy to solder multiple pieces together without having on of the prior joints come apart. It also does the job with minimum discoloration of the brass. I know, it's a rat rod, but from the skill level you have shown here, you are not just doing rat rods!
GTMust Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I am in total awe of your work!! I bow to your mastery of all things "rat rod"! Can't wait to see more. Tony
Bernard Kron Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Loving every moment of this. So much to enjoy, so much to learn from.
