Another WIP on my bench. Kit is Lindberg's 1964 Dodge 330 - the classic sleeper car. I am attempting to build a fuel injected, aluminium, 588-inch Indy Max Legend Hemi mated to a 5 speed Jerico transmission. The engine idea came from an article in Mopar Action April 2011 issue - it sits in a 205 mph+ 71 Hemi Daytona. Mine will be more of a scary to drive street car/sleeper look. I will be making it a light weight version, as best I can, with aluminim fenders, front bumper, and doors. This is the reason I like making models - if you were lucky enough to own a real 64 super stock, I don't think you'd want to change much!

Slightly tubbed out the rear to fit some wide tires - will run steelies and dog dish caps:

Here is a mock up of the engine - valve covers are modified from one of Revell's recent hemi funny cars, block is from 68 Dart Hemi, transmission and bellhousing are scratch built:

Interesting build. Only one flaw I read. No Daytona in 71. Only 69. :P

Thank god Mopar had sense enough not to do that. Too bad others messed up some great cars to stick that junk on there. Can't believe they screwed up that 71 R/T like that. All original that thing would be worth double to low triple digits, but aint worth squat like that.

Not a chance. I'd hate to see that out on the road. And you somewhere along the way, someone will pass that fake off as a real one. I caught two Challengers for sale at Hunters Custom Auto Expo a few years ago. Not too long after I sold my 70. They were trying to pass them off as R/T cars. Neither was close to a real R/T car and one had the wrong vin code for the engine it had in it. I feel sorry for who ever he suckered into buying those things. I'm glad he over heard me telling my brother what was wrong with both of them too. No that I was trying to be quiet so he could not hear me either. lol.

Note to self - "watch out for Mopar fans"...

Started to carve out a manifold similar to the one on the reference vehicle. Started with a block of styrene, laid out general shape, and started filing and sanding! Not quite there yet...

I had to cut the original in half to reset the "offset" of the left and right sides - as I sanded down from the original marks, they came out symmetrical.

Love your work! Makes me think I can scratch build the transfer case I need. What wax did you use for the transmission master? Seems like candle wax would be too brittle.

how did you create the block? was it multiple pieces laminated together or was it a big chunk to start with?

Laminated three strips and one thick sheet across them to make the block.

Steve - here is the wax I have been using:

I purchased it from Ottofrie (sp?) online - they are a jewelry making supply company. I purchased the sampler kit with one of each hardness of wax. If you would like a little block PM me and I will send a piece - a transfer case won't take much.

Here is the progression - cut out block close to size (I then use a compass to layout lines for proportions), carve the wax to a general shape, cast that in resin, and add final details:

For the smaller details I super glue thin styrene, styrene rods, and wire then cover with Mr Surfacer 500 to blend in. Primer, sand, primer, paint and here is the final result:

Still need to add a few bolts, the linkages and shifter.

Thanks for following and commenting!

...and started on the fuel tank.

Styrene strips, circle made with a hole punch, tube, photo etch bolts, and some piece I found rolling around in one of my parts bins:

Underneath, I just covered the kit tank with styrene:

I will add some straps and other details, but not tonight.

Thanks Erik! I will look for the wax. I have a couple other items I want to creat also and the wax may give me an easier way to create the basic shapes.

I look forward to your progress. Keep up the great work
