Mooneyzs Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Ed... Thank you on the kind words and the advice. The joys of owning a house...lol. I will say this at least it wasn't were it flooded the garage just the signs of it going out and needs to be repaired.
Mooneyzs Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Ed... Thank you. Dave... Thank you sir. Well I don't have much to show but I did receive the caster wheels for the body cart and wanted to show them to you. Here they are: I received the Caster wheels as well as picked up some more 3/32" square tubing to finish up the supports on this cart: Here are the casters: Holding one up to the caster mounting plate. I am thinking that the casters are a little small for this and probably think I will end up having to make my own casters for this:
Davewilly Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Or remove the footplates and have the caster bolt right to the sq tube...
John Pol Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 those casters look like the right size for wheelie wheels for a 1/25 scale
Davewilly Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) Or if this helps...here is a photo of the plates and casters that are on the missile carts we make from time to time in our shop.. the casters look small compared to the plates and the cart over all... Here is the overall look. Side view: Top view: End view: Also the caster has a plate on it, Then we bolt it to the footplate on the frame. This footplate on the frame is a 5"x7" and the leg on the frame is 3"x3" with a 1-5/8" stiffener post & the caster is 4" dia, so you can get a size comparison on the components. LarryT Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 They may look wrong for now, but don't worry Chris will make it look right L3
comp1839 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 chris the body cart looks great!!! many of the carts i see, have larger air filled tires since the pits aren't exactly the smoothest surface to be rolling on.
Mooneyzs Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Dave.. the plates were sized off some Casters from McMaster-Carr. the foot plate i belived I used was 4" x 6". Thanks for the pics of the casters on the missle carts. I will end up making new casters for this. Larry... thank you. You are right I will be redoing them...lol Dave... thank you... now you have me thinking that I need to use some sort of knobby tire .

No Problem...for wheels you can try looking at Lego Motor cycle wheels....They worked out great for me on my HO scale Mijack container crane I had on my HO train layout....they might be the right size at 1/16th scale.....
Mooneyzs Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Dave... The lego wheels sounds like it would work. I think I have some I didn't even think about them...lol Well I was able to sit down and somewhat tinker with the body cart stand again. I remembered that I purchased some wheels for my little 1/43rd scale '49 Merc and it had extra tires in the package. So I pulled them out and measured and they would actually work and they would be equivalent to a 10" Dia. So as usual I had to take a look at what it would look like with the cart. Here are pics along with a drawing of the actual caster from McMaster-Carr: Here is a drawing from McMaster-Carr on the 10" inflatable Caster Wheels: Here is an overall shot of the cart with the wheels stuck under it: The Rear: Measurements of the Rear so you know the size: Test fit with the body on to see if the wheel size looks ok:
Davewilly Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 That looks like it will work out pretty good. Seems to look right anyway.
gasser59 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Personally, I think they're too big. Maybe something like shopping cart wheels in scale? Whatever you decide should be killer.
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Have to agree that they are too big. The diameter needs to be about the same size as the plate they atach to. Look at the reference picture you posted.
GoatGuy Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Personally I don't know if they're too big or just right. I'm sure your sleuth skills will find the answer. Looking forward to more.
sflam123 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I'm sorry, but I too think the mocked up wheels look to big. IMO, scaled shopping cart or even go-cart wheels would seem about right. Steve
mysterj1 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) Sorry to pile on, Chris, but I have to agree. They don't seem to scale to me, either. I think something closer to the size of the old AFX slot cars would be more to scale on this project's casters. Edited March 28, 2014 by mysterj1
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Chris I see john made a cart for his streamliner and they look right.
Terminator-Fox Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I keep seeing talk of this DSC show on the forum. It just so happens I fly into Phoenix on the 12th. I'm gonna try and go and see this bad boy in person if I can!
gasser59 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Steve - you won't be disappointed. There are so many highly skilled craftsmen attending that you won't believe it. There's also a BBQ afterwards that you'd be welcome to attend. Look me up.
comp1839 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 chris, i think your tires look perfect. if any one here has had to push anything on the surface in many of the pits or in and out of the ramps on a trailer they'd appreciate the larger wheel. i know some guys run little tiny wheels on their carts. some guys don't. if i was on your pit crew. i'd love ya for thinkin' about the guy who has to push that cart. hehe. here's a shot of peter gallens cart.
