randx0 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 That really bugs me. I don't think they know what they're dune to me. I have waited for a long time for this one.
Gregg Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Here's the pics: Notice the MCM flyer that's in the box! A big mahalo goes out to John G over at Round2/AMT for his help in getting this kit on the shelves again.
Gregg Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 There is also a cardboard display base/stand. The base is kind of rolled half way in the box, which will let it lie flat without a crease in it. I folded it here in this pic, so that I could take a better picture of it. If not, it would just have rolled up on itself. Take care when putting the base together. It's best to use a ruler and make sure all the folds are straight and true. For those who build paper models, maybe you can share some tips and tricks with us?
crazyjim Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 So where's mine? I ordered them from Tower Hobbies on November 26, 2011.
crazyjim Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I should have checked with Tower before posting. My order has been "invoiced and in the warehouse for processing". Maybe next week arrival?
High octane Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Glad to see it re-issued, but it'll just be another one or two(?) for the "pile" as I have enough kits started already.
David G. Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks for the pics Gregg. I have two of these on order from the LHS; it looks like I won't be disappointed. David G.
440 Dakota Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 very cool I'll be pickin up a couple, thanks for posting
jaydar Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Great pix. The last news i saw pushed this to January. I have to check the LHS. He ordered one for me. Merry Christmas, joe.
whale392 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 "But there's no stock VW wheels and tires" (rolls eyes) I can see a lot of potential from this old kit, and am glad to see it back. Kit-Bash this baby with some VW/Porsche kits and have an endless field day with it.
george 53 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 OOOO,OOO, this is gonna be FUN!!! I got a super cool, done up right one comein! Gonna be special, i can say that! And Thanks to WHOMEVER got this rascal back for us!!!!! Imma HAPPY camper.
Gregg Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Yups, Mr. Harry did a great job with that! Hopefully, Round2 will sell a gazillion Meyers Manx kits, and we will become the favorite mag all over the country for all those who love this classic icon. Now, I have send a note off to Winnie and Bruce Meyer...
VW Dave Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Now, I have send a note off to Winnie and Bruce Meyers. There, fixed it for you. Thanks for sharing the pics, the kit looks great...I'm not sure about the blue glass, but that's pretty minor. Any pics of the purple one?
Dragline Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Finally, a model I can paint in metalflake where the flakes will actually be in scale. My only opportunity so I'll get a couple. One for Dad, one for me. I have to build Dads first though. Bob
Harry P. Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Finally, a model I can paint in metalflake where the flakes will actually be in scale.
Modelmartin Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I would be excited but I already have 2 originals on the shelf! doh!
randx0 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Okay, I have to ask because i've never had one of these...what's so great about this kit? I mean folks seem to be losing their minds over it and while i'm happy for the people who are getting what they want, i've never seen the kind of furor over a re-issue like this one? What is it about this particular kit? for me it was always a grail kit,and this is a model of the 1/1 buggy that launched a thousand knock offs.besides what is more fun than a dune buggy?
High octane Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 The kit would have been much better if they included a 'Vair engie also and with both the 4-carb option and the Turbocharger too. I'd like a little more "motor" in my buggy.
Craig Irwin Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Corvair engines in a buggy were the hot ticket back in the sixties, but today the VW engine makes the power without the size and rotation issues. My 1835cc dual carb VW pulls the front wheels, what more do you really need?
Gregg Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Nick, you are missing the boat with the original Meyers Manx buggy. It was THE car with the air-cooled VW engine. The Corvair "options" to us VW fanatics was nothing short of sacrilegious. Now, don't everyone get all huffy and puffy at me, remember, I am, or was, not only a master journeyman VW technician, I taught VW factory classes, ran service VW dealer departments, and owned my own VW repair shops. So, to a person such as myself, the Meyers Manx Dune Buggy is our HOLLY GRAIL kit. Unlike Andy, I never could get my hands on an original kit, for a reasonable price (Under $100), so this kit is one I am buying a dozen/case of at least. I am shooting pics of the purple metalflake option kit one now.
