charlie8575 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Honda, at least seems to use "EX" on the more deluxe models, so "Everything Xcluded" wouldn't work. Still doesn't answer what it means. Maybe it means nothing....although "EXpensive" might work. Example: Accord EX- $24,105/5-speed; $24,905/automatic. Yup....EXpensive does fit. Charlie Larkin
highway Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 To jump in on the Super-Duty convo.........if you have the right version, I would say you could still call it a Super-Duty. I have a 2000 F-350 crew cab dually with the bullet proof 7.3 liter Powerstroke with a ZF-6 manual trans. It only has the newer version of the XLT package of pw, pl, and cruise. Otherwise it has no extra factory frills. It has a push bar style grill guard with a louvered V-gate. It looks rough around the edges compared to the newer ones. Barry When you have a spring setup like this, THEN you should have the Super Duty name! By the way, Barry, that is not directed towards you, it's for all girly Super Dutys everywhere! Also, Barry, my 1990 dually wishes it could have the goodies yours does, I'm lucky I have a radio!!
Craig Irwin Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Years ago Cavilers were marked CS and CL. I asked a man at the Chevy dealer what that ment and he told me "Chevy striped and Chevy loaded". I'll bet his boss wouldn't have approved of his answer.
Chuck Most Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 In 1985, Honda had a version of the Accord called the Accord STD. It only lasted one year. The STD stood for 'Standard', but given that particular abbreviation's more common application, well, somebody in Honda's Marketing team dropped the ball!
MrObsessive Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Of course, today a lot of cars are just appliances...

Aaronw Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 In the late 70s Mazda had GLC, the commercials promoted it as Great Little Car.
Craig Irwin Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Oh yes, the Omni's. The added S was for Some-more according ti Shelby. GLH-Some-more !
62rebel Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 so tell me this: who/what/where is "King Ranch" and what in the blue blazes makes that name worth gluing to the side/tailgate of an otherwise unremarkable ford pickup and surcharging the customer another house payment or two....... and as far as that goes..... why does Ford have a Harley-Davidson edition? does Harley-Davidson have a "FORD" labelled motorcycle? geez. stickers and badges do not make a vehicle any better.... that's my tuppence, anyway. (BMW: Bavarien Motoren Werke)
Aaronw Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 It is a big ranch in Texas with history back to the American Civil War. I have no idea what the tie in to Ford is, but Colt offered some special King Ranch guns for a time too. Maybe some of the Texas members could fill us in.
Monty Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 (BMW: Bavarien Motoren Werke) Close! It's Bayerische Motoren Werke

The most remarkable thing about it is that its seats are covered in brown saddle leather, and the inside smells like a tack shop (mmmmmm leather!). It's pretty loaded with gizmos and bells and whistles, and has some King Ranch specific alloy wheels. I think they all come in a two-tone with a limited selection of colors, but I don't know if they're exclusive to the King Ranch line. It's a pretty nice truck, with a 5.4L and 3.73s. I think the King Ranch itself is in south Texas, but I'm not sure. Texas is a big place, and it's nowhere around here, so.... I agree totally about the Harley truck. I never understood the tie-in. I do like the older generation Harley trucks, with the supercharged 5.4L (kinda like a detuned 4-door Lightning), but the Harley junk was always a turn off for me.
diymirage Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Is that German for Bavarian Motor Works because that what I thought it stood for? Blau Mitt Weis is german for blue and white, it was a pun reffering to thier emblem
ffreak Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Blau Mitt Weis is german for blue and white, it was a pun reffering to thier emblem I always thought it was " Buncha Money Wasted " !!!!

The Ford Harley Edition isn't the only Harley branded truck to make you wonder about the tie-in to the Harley, International also has this Harley Edition Lonestar truck. Now I could understand a Ford-International tie-in, because I believe up until the 2011 model year, all Ford diesels were built by International. The new 2011 is a Ford built diesel so they say, and the 6something liters in the about 2004 or 5 to the 2010 I think were the International, and I know for certain the old 6.9 liter and 7.3 liter non turbo and turbo Powerstroke versions were all International. My 1990 F350 has the non turbo 7.3 liter, and she may say Ford on the outside, but she's all International at heart!
highway Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Darn, I always thought XL stood for extra large. I think in this case that might be exactly what XL stands for Don! I drove a couple of these in my days on the road, it is a Freightliner Classic XL. I'm not exactly sure what the XL actually stands for, but the XL version was larger than the standard Classic model, but it could very well be "extra large"! On the serious side though, since the hood of the XL was about 2 feet longer than the standard Classic, it could stand for "extra long". The XL also had some more "creature comforts" than the standard Classic, so it could be for "extra luxurious" as well. All I know is the Classic XL was a fine driving truck, but because of the longer hood and not a very tight turning radius, it was a challenge to back into some tight docks or parking spots!
charlie8575 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 At least in Ford parlance, "XL" stood for "eXtra Lively." That Lonestar Harley Edition is a pretty sharp truck. I think the Lonestar is a sharp truck, anyway. Charlie Larkin Of course, today a lot of cars are just appliances... Please, Harry, you'll insult the toasters by lowering them to that level! Great picture, though. Charlie Larkin
Guest Johnny Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 dodge called it rapid/transit. And to think I always thought it stood for rusted trunk!

(BMW: Bavarien Motoren Werke) The King Ranch and Harley editions were more than stickers and badges, the Harley edition had a supercharger, for Pete's sake! ON the flip side, why did Chevy have a North Face edition? Ever seen a North Face Chevy Edition jacket? To answer the first part... no freakin' idea where the 'King Ranch' thing comes from either. The trucks are kind of tacky Imho. I'd still love a Harley F-150, though.
