About two months ago my girlfriend and I heard this weird thud in our house but couldn't find where it came from. Well yesterday I found it. I cleaned out our spare closet, which is the access to the water heater, so I could put my large model kits in there. I stacked some small boxes with loose parts on the shelf above the hang rail and while bringing kits into the closet my cat got in the closet jumped on the shelf and knocked over one of the boxes. I saw that some of the parts had fallen behind the access panel for the water heater. When I removed the panel I saw the water heater had fallen over against a wall so the Carbon Monoxide was venting into the house instead of out the flue. So for two months my girlfriend and I had been living in here breathing that stuff. It explains a lot of my headaches and my recent memory retention issues and my tiredness and well a lot more. Once I saw the water heater I opened every window in between the closet and the front door, grabbed the two cats and went outside, turned the gas off and called the subdivision manager and my stepdad (who I found out was on vacation in the Caribbean with my mom, guess I wasn't special enough to tell?). Luckily the subdivision maintenance guys were still around and they came right over and fixed everything .

Less than 24 hours later and a trip to the ER later I am feeling better with only a long list of potential effects to watch out for. I for the first time in weeks don't have a headache.

So I say thank you to my cat, Tyson, and Lindberg for making a model people couldn't finish. Also the maintenance guys who worked overtime for free to fix the water heater. I can't remember their names but I will send them cookies at Christmas if I can remember that.

here is Tyson

Well Praise God your both OK!!! Man THAT musta beena rush to see THAT!!! Our Co2 dectctor when off once, an our security system called the Fire Dept on us!!! The dectector had just gone off it seemed, an we wre looking for it when the Fire guys got there! Turns out the new furnace we had just put in had the fresh air intake placed too close to the exhaust vent, so the bad air was being drawn in with the good air! We called the company an they sent a guy out who just extended the intake about a foot higher. No more problems since though. I guess we were lucky! GLAD your OK.:D:);)

I am not a cat person but gotta admit that you are blessed to have one that was looking out for you.

WOW.

Good thing you're all safe and things are better.

For the record, which kit were you referring to?

Charlie Larkin

The Ford Cougar II. I have not attempted the kit but a friend gave his partially built one to me because he was so frustrated with it.

Glad to hear you're OK! Now please go buy a CO detector for each floor of your house. (New York State recently enacted a law requiring them for all residences.)

You know what's sad is that we have one. Well thought we did it was supposed to be hard wired but apparently the people that owned the house before us disconnected it and left it up so we never knew it didn't work.

That's a funny line right there, and a good outcome to a potentially bad story. Glad you're OK, and I also recommend CO detectors for your future protection.

Hey Robert. ;)

Good news getting that problem under control.

Did ya make it to the Kirkwood show last week.

We couldn't cause them nasty gas prices.

I did, had enough change in the jar to put the some fuel in the tank. Went to the show to with 17 bucks and two models to trade. I walked out with 19.
