Stripped down interior?

I've seen some Import Tuner style models lately built with a "stripped down interior"...meaning the interior looks like all the door panels, carpeting, and rear seat and panels have been removed and you see the sheet metal "skeleton" of the interior. As a stripped down track or drag import car would look like. Are these interior panels that you can buy or are they scratchbuilt?

it seems pretty simple to me, that hardest part would be deciding what to do with the rest of the car, i mean, once you "strip" the door panel will you leave the backseat area stock ?

before you know it your using only a floor pan and the dash

iether way, if you get some thin sheet styrene and some good reference pics you should be set

oh, you might also want to get some wire to attach the doorpulls to the latch

I would think they are scratch built as every car would be different.

This is one are where Tamiya, Fujimi, etc. kits are leaps and bounds ahead of typical Revell, AMT, etc. kits. The Japanese kits usually have a detailed floorpan showing the metal structure, rather than molded in carpet detail like most U.S. manufacturere's kits do. Granted, not all Japaneses-based kits are like this, but if you're building a stripped down car, it's a huge advantage to start with something that is, well. stripped down.

It's only been in the last decade or so that Revell for example has produced kits with the option of leaving out the rear seat ('69 Charger R/T and Daytona come to mind) and addding some structural rib detail in the form of separate parts.

the revell datsun 510 has a stripped down interior.

im not sure of any other kits from them or amt though.

most stripped/gutted interiors are scratch built.

plenty of time goes into getting these correct or near correct. research, reference pictures, 1:1 experiance or ownership also helps.

there are about 3 kits i can think of that have gutted interior buckets. sytren sheets are the best for this and putty as well.
