I'm wanting to create my own 1/25 8mm plug wires and boots. I know several of you have recommended Radio Shack wire for this, but need to know which P/N would work best for the plug wire and which P/N would be best for creating good fitting slip-over boots.

I assume their wires come in a small variety of colors, but if not, what kind of paint would be best to address that? Acrylic? Enamel?

I have the p/n for the white color wire: 278-502 (50-ft.-15.2m) Insulated wrapping wire.

30 gauge.

I got the white wire because you can use sharpie markers to color them any color you like.

As for the boot material, not sure. I use telephone wire for that, or whatever fits. Hope this helps. RJ

Can anybody translate this into English? What's a DM dizzy kit? What?

I think DM = Detail Masters, but the rest is gibberish.

My translation:

For that price, you may as well spend the extra $.80 and get a Detail Masters distributor kit. Craft stores like Michael's have wire in black for jewelry at $2.50 for 50 yards. The Dollar Store for telephone wire to make boots. Radio Shack has white, black, blue & red for about $5, and I found that for distributor body & cap, it's cheaper to use aluminum ($1.25) over plastic ($3.99) for the same size pieces - 1/8x12 and 3/32x12 inches. Hope this helps. Mike.

I don't think English is Mike's first language.

A little 'proper' English would go a LONG way, don't you think?

I agree that the types of posts where you actually have to try and figure out what the poster is saying are wasting members' time. Seriously... if the average person has to re-read your post several times and then try to figure out what the heck you're saying, obviously your post isn't very clear or well-written.

We don't expect perfect grammar, spelling and punctuation... but we do expect your posts to be comprehensible!

Well, we're halfway there: Thanks to RJWood I've got a P/N for the wire and a way to "paint" it.

Since I don't have access to a whole lot of spare wire, I was hoping someone with more experience with "wires" could tell me the Radio Shack P/N for a wire whose insulation would be a tight slip-fit over the wire RJWood mentioned, allowing me to make "boots" for both ends.

Yes, I'm aware that there are pre-made distributors out there (MAD's HEI units are The Best IMHO) but I don't always want to rely on the aftermarket if I can make it myself.

It's a common reference to a distributor over at Rennlist.

I don't have a p/n for you, but here's a way to figure out what gauge wire to get for the boots. Measure the diameter of the 30 gauge wire (diameter of insulation) being used for the spark plug wire. This will be the diameter of wire with insulation that will slip over it. Use a wire gauge table to get a wire with ever so slightly larger diameter. Remember, a table giving wire diameters is for the wire, not insulation.
