cruz Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Okay guys, time to share this build with you. It's just one of those kits that when you see them for the first time you just have to go ahead and put together. I will let the pictures do the talking..... roadhawg Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Ohhhh.....I can't wait! I'm SURE this one will be nice. Thats my favorite year of Thunderbird too.
cotto Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Happy to see you starting on another project my friend, love the fact that you are going with the whole white interior, including the carpets and mats. Just got this kit and now I am even happier that I got it seeing you started on this project. Are the tires/white walls from Modelhaus?

The tires and white walls were given to me by a good friend but I can safely say they are from Modelhaus.

Romell R Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Great work so far! Im gonna be lazy here instead of going back a third time, but what kit is this ? I think i missed it somewhere. Keep up the great work!
cruz Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Thanks for the help Ken. Yes a re-issue, only with more parts to make it a little different!! Hosted on Fotki I thought it looked so cool, I had to stop everything I was doing and get this one done. Neat kit for sure!!!
meaneyme Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Great start man, why not use the kit supplied sombrero hubcaps and white wall tires?

pepperdrumstix Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I am loving this build. I like '62 T Birds and have one I have been working on for a while. I need to repaint it this summer. I have used the Testors' Boyd's Grape Purple pearl and it was a nice paint to use. Should look fine with the kit decals and that perfect white interior. Did you "rub" the black paint on the chassis to get the different color tones and highlights? I do that with flat black spry paints to get contrasting coloring and tones. That "rubbing the surface" creates a different color and texture from the initial color coat. This will be a nice period perfect custom of a great looking car. Patrick M

For the chassis, I use Rub N Buf, it's a pastelike product sold in Michael's and it's how I create this effect.
edward smith Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 This is so cool man, glad to see you are active again. What are you using to thin the fingernail polish? I have tried everything and can't never seem to find success doing so. How dark a purple are you using? You also say that you will clear your decals but last I heard, fingernail polish dries flat which, as I have read before, it's a surface which decals do not conform to. Sorry for the multiple questions.

Sorry for the multiple questions. No need to apologize man, that is why we post our projects here, to share but also to learn from others! I like to use the regular cheap lacquer thinner to thin my fingernail polish, seems to work well for me. I always advice people to play with the mixture vs the air when using this type of medium so, it's always good to have a few spare parts primed before shooting your paint on your project. Make sure to use a good primer to protect your plastic. Currently, I am using Krylon but you can also try Plasti-Kote or Dupli-Color primers. The color I am using for this project is a pretty dark purple I purchased at Wal-Mart. It's called, Buffy the Violet Slayer I will post pictures later, I just hope you can see the "purple" in it, for some reason, the purples always seem to come out blue when the photos are taken. You are correct, decals do not get along with flat surfaces, that's why I am spraying at least 3 coats of clear first, wetsanding them, adding my decals and then finishing off with at least another 4 coats of clear. I will then wetsand my last clearcoats again and finish off with a nice, smooth polishing and waxing!
