dannyi Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 As some of you may know I've been trying to add a variety of wheels to my product line. Mostly older styles and some hard to find ones. Been looking to add some Mopar steel wheels but I'm finding it hard to locate good examples. I recently obtained a 64' Dodge 330 by Linberg just for the wheels, but these wheels look nothing like the one I've found in my research. My question is what kits have good representation of Mopar steel wheels? As always any help would be greatly appreciated............thanks
RichCostello Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I think the ones in the Revell 68 Charger are pretty good.
slantasaurus Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Another good source is the Lindberg Little Red Wagon A-100 P/U.
dannyi Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 ....thanks guys, I have both of those kits, their still sealed so I'll have to bust them open!.....
diymirage Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 some of my favorite steelies are on the dodge monaco's, roscoes cruizer, the goon car they are nice and deep and make great street muscle rims
dannyi Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 ...thanks again guys, I didn't know these kits had steel wheels in them. Here's some pics of the ones that came in the Linberg 330 kit, did Chrysler ever make any wheels that look like this?
my name is nobody Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I have used the steel wheels from the Revell '64 Ford Fairlane "Thunderbolt" kits on a couple of 1969 1/2 Dodge Super Bee A-12 replicas. Not only do they look correct, they also fit the tires in the dodge kit very well.
GMP440 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Those wheels pictured are ok, but not correct. If you can find an old Johan 69' Roadrunner kit, those wheels are pretty accurate. As mentioned in another post the Little Red Wagon kit has an accurate looking set.
dannyi Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 ..after I opened the Linberg kit and saw those wheels and thought they didn't look right. Got the wheels from the Little Red Wagon and the 68 Charger out and those look a lot better. I'll have to check out the other kits that have been mentioned too. Again you fellas have came through!...thanks much everyone!
Mr. Moparman Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Everybody seems to be casting steelies latly...
Drake69 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) I'd love to see more combinations of Dodge steelies and dog dishes in these kits, or at the very least, not as expensive (cost of steelies + cost of dog dishes + cost of wheel backs = $$$$). As many 60's/70's Dodge and Chrysler kits now out there, they should be made a standard choice now, or as a "scale-back" add-on kit. Yes, you CAN get resin casts for all three components, but they get quite expensive when buying in bulk. Edited June 26, 2011 by Drake69
roadhawg Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Everybody seems to be casting steelies latly... Yeah, they're gettin' to be a dime a dozen, but finding good 60 and 70 series tires to use with them, thats another story......hint, hint.
Mr. Moparman Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Oh old lettering on the side tire, eh! Lemee see....
roadhawg Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Oh old lettering on the side tire, eh! Lemee see.... No, not so much the lettering, but the tire itself. I build a lot of 70s era street machines, and I wish there was an easy source for tires ranging from an F-70/14 up to an L-60/15. I'm tired of robbing kits just for tires. Oh, I know Modelhaus has a few, but when I want tires, I want 'em now, not 4 to 6 weeks from now. Sorry for getting off topic....me shut up now!

For resin tires, Scale Equipment Ltd has a good selection of '70s style white letter tires..

Keef Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 (edited) Mopar Steelies? in 1/24 scale? nope, never seen them Edited June 26, 2011 by Keef
GMP440 Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Revell '56 Chevy Del Ray, just saying Those Del Ray wheels look good. Actually, they are correct looking. Has the raised dimples beteen the lug nuts.
dannyi Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 ..ok, just so I'm understanding all this....the wheels that Keef has in his post are the same wheels I got from the Revell '68 Dodge Charger kit and the wheels in this pic are from the Little Red Wagon Linberg kit. So these are NOT acurate? The Revell '56 Chevy Del Ray wheels are?

So these are NOT acurate? The Revell '56 Chevy Del Ray wheels are? No idea...I can't imagine using a '50s Chevy wheel on Mopars..for the '67-72 Mopars w/ steelies and DDs builds I have planned, I use Revell '68 Charger steelies and resin copies of them I've bought, along with Missing Link Resin Dodge or Plymouth DDs. For a couple cars that I want wider rear wheels on, I've got the wide wheels from the '78 Monaco police car kit.
dannyi Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 ..thanks guys....I used 'google search' and a couple of classic/vintage wheel dealers sites to do my research on these, is there a good web site or other source for accurate information regarding wheels and tires?
Casey Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I have used the steel wheels from the Revell '64 Ford Fairlane "Thunderbolt" kits on a couple of 1969 1/2 Dodge Super Bee A-12 replicas. Not only do they look correct, they also fit the tires in the dodge kit very well. I did the same when I built an A12 Super Bee. The rear steel wheels from the Revell '64 T-bolt kit are a perfect fit inside the Goodyear Steel Belted Radial tires included with the Monogram (now Revell) '69 Super Bee kit, since both the wheels and tires are 15"...and the T-bolt kit "feels" a lot closer to 1/24 scale than 1/25 scale to me. Now here's the rub on the T-bolt's rear wheels. In order to have the space between the spokes open, you need to sand down the backs of the wheels, but once you sand enough material away, the four spokes become very, very thin.
