GTMust Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 This Toronado ('67?) Started as a glue bomb yard sale find by a friend of mine, who asked me if I could repair and finish it. Some parts (front suspension) were missing, but I was able to cobble together some pieces from my parts stash and get a reasonable stance to it. Tha color scheme represents the Toronado that my friend owned back in the '70's, with a vinyl roof. He seemed quite pleased when I gave him the rebuilt model............
Flatearthman Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Excelent refurbishing of a glue bomb,is that the color of your friends car?
GTMust Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 ......................................... is that the color of your friends car? Yes. At least as close as I could find in a spray can. He had a couple of pictures but the color had faded over the years.
Guest Johnny Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Great car great rebuild! Just something special about rebuilding a glue bomb over a new kit that gets a person! I really love that body style too! Had a HS science teacher had one in a metallic green/turquoise color! Loved that car!!!
GTMust Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Appreciate all the kind comments...... thanks. I was lucky with this one... a lot of my glue bomb restos finish up as a "glue bomb Mark 2" (or never get finished at all!). Tony
Sixties Sam Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Very nice! I always loved the early Toro's. Good color scheme. Sam
Monty Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Always nice to see one of these restored so nicely, given their scarcity. Great job on the re-do. The gold color kinda reminds me of Jay Leno's 1,000+ hp beast I know the demand for these '66 & '67 Toronados isn't great, but could you imagine AMT tooling up a new one with the kind of engineering & effort they put into their '66 Riviera?
Randy D Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Hi Tony , That's a great resto job! Love the color. Randy
Nitrozilla Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Any chance of getting a pic of the underside? Being a front wheel drive, I'd be interested to see how you pulled it off. Excellent restore. Every time I see a Toronado, I think of Wonder Warthog !!
GTMust Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Any chance of getting a pic of the underside? Being a front wheel drive, I'd be interested to see how you pulled it off. Excellent restore. Every time I see a Toronado, I think of Wonder Warthog !! Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. It's at my friend's house about 100 miles from here. To be honest, I just built a couple of supports from scrap parts and then put a straight metal axle through it. Not the best modelling technique in the world, but my friend intended to put it in a display case and was only interested in what it looked like from the top! But I won't tell if you don't! And thanks to the rest of you for such nice comments.
charlie8575 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Tony, all I can say is wow! That looks great, and your gold is a very close match to the Trumpet Gold paint chip I have. Great work on this. And yes, a new Toro done to Riviera standards would be a huge seller, I think. Charlie Larkin
