MikeMc Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) What is wrong with the Confederate Flag! It is part of history now! It shows the meaning of Southern Heritage! Gosh! Is it Heritage or Hate....not my call..I could tell you what MY neighbors say....... Edited August 6, 2011 by Harry P.
Junkman Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 BTT: Not a GL only section, but I second that a TV/Movie models section probably won't hurt.
Harold Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Would that include a supermodel dressed up as General Lee?
Harry P. Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I actually think haveing at least a movie/tv car thread is a good ideam since some complain alot about threads about the General Lee, and yet CONTINUE to read them. So you think the people who read the General Lee threads and then complain about them will stop doing that if the General Lee topics are moved to a different place? I don't think so...

I don't think so... I don't think so, either. Why should we miss out on all the bizarre, surreal, inane antics? (Emoticon indicating ... you know what here.)
sjordan2 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Hey, if we can have a forum on "General," why not "General Lee?" Edited August 6, 2011 by sjordan2
MoparWoman Jamie Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Well when people talk about the General Lee, a lot of people are always for getting one thing. When they complain about the old General, are they complaining about the General Lee or the charger under the paint job? You see, each General Lee build that goes on, there is two things, parts of the build. The General Lee itself and also the Charger that is under that paint job. There is no correct General Lee really unless you build one from a certain episode. But then you also have to think about the Charger as well that played that General. Like how was it made from the factory. Things like that if you want to go correct for both sides of the build. The same goes for if your building one for a certain season of the show. But if your building one your way, it's up to the builder to decide how ever they want to build it then. Now about the forums, well I think a Tv/Movie one work very well, because there was the series 1979-1985 then 2005 there was a movie made, then in 2007 we had yet another movie made as well. So there for the General Lee build would fit in a Tv/Movie area very well.. plus it would also fit on the work bench area as well. But what gets me is this, and it's like someone else point out, why enter the thread just to complain about it (LOL) if you don't like it, easy thing to do if you didn't like the build would be not enter the thread at all and just avoid it and go to the threads you like.
Harry P. That makes perfect sense. But people don't behave sensibly. They're drawn to the General Lee threads not for the model, but for the "controversy" every one of those General Lee threads causes. Same reason why a car stalled on the side of the road always causes a massive traffic jam on the expressway. There's no reason to slow down and look at the car, but people just can't help themselves.
Danno Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Hey, if we can have a forum on "General," why not "General Lee?" Woohoo! Good one! (Emoticon indicating 'laughing out loud at the good one!' here.)

Absolutely amazing how some people can take a water balloon and try to make rocket science out of it. (Emoticon indicating amazement here.)
mikemodeler Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Hey, if we can have a forum on "General," why not "General Lee?" Let's take it a step further and include all Generals ! I mean why should we limit it to just General Lee? Aren't there other Generals out there, like General Motors? Really folks, it is a hobby, that is all! (for me at least, life is too short)
Kit Basher Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Let's take it a step further and include all Generals! Don't forget General Confusion, General Incompetence, and General Ignorance!

Seriously now, not having read any GL threads on other forums, what kind of 'controversy' do GL threads normally cause? Is it just the flag, or something else?

Is it just the flag, or something else? the flag is the least of the problems but somehow we always get the debates on what exact orange the general was, what factory options it had, what engine it ran, what type of push bar, what type of roll bar, if we should remove the sidemarkers, if the doors are welded shut and what type of maps go in the glove compartement

My. God.
Chuck Most Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 And yet, when somebody builds a Batmobile, nobody bashes if for not having the 'correct' turbine engine. Nobody hems and haws over what shate of red the stripes on the A-Team's van should be. Nobody notices if the shade of tan the interior is off a bit on your Knight Two Thousand. But for whatever reason DOH fans are rabid about the details. Why? Dunno, just seems like that to me.

It seems that many people grossly overhype and overrate what essentially was a cheap fashion gag without any outstanding technical features. Granted, with the right motor it went like stink, but so did all other contemporary Mopars, even the Imperials.

A regular Dodge Charger doesn't generate even a fraction of the controversy over minute detail and accuracy that surrounds the Dukes of Hazzard General Lee.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Everybody now change their avatar to the General Lee!!

I don't know- people love Chargers, no matter how mechanically unremarkable they may be. (Oh, I went and did it there, didn't I? ) Is it a Mopar thing, perhaps? Seems like the guys who restore Mopars 'sweat the details' to make them as-new once restored- chalk marks on the firewall, battery cable overspray, etc. I stopped reading Mopar-specific mags years ago because I was tired of article after article of Concours restoration guidelines.

You are probably right. I remember this from my Imperial restoration days. Maybe the Mopar buffs simply apply the same love for detail to the movie cars, which means, you have to replicate how botched together they actually were. Not an easy task in 1:25 and nearly impossible from what you have to work with in 1:16.
Drake69 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 It's hilarious. I should never have had a build thread on mine. I mean, I got GREAT ideas and corrections to mistakes and all, but people got started with the details posts before I had even applied the first drop of glue! I like build threads because you do get the great ideas (and less disappointed commentary) from your audience, but I never realized people get all in a tizzy over that particular car. I had far less of a fuss when I built my Challenger from "Vanishing Point"... Although, I DID get the typical "Revell 'Cudas" arguments when I built "Phantasm"... Now I'm scared what will happen when I start my "Death Proof Nova" build thread...
