So I get home Tuesday evening from spending a few days in North Branch visiting the folks, and my place is burned up. Lost my computer, a 26" flat screen that was my monitor, both my amps, tube screamer, wah wah pedal and about fifty unbuilts, plus 20 builts and my second stab at a Predictor. All my files are gone (I'd just finished an article that I was going to submit last week). My cabinet and the builts inside it survived, as did my workbench and tools (thankfully). Bluntly speaking, I'm screwed. I'm just glad Reno was with me, as was my guitar.

Sorry to hear that Harold. :D I don't know what's worse, losing some of your prized models, or losing all your data on your computer! :o

I too am a HUGE fan of Carbonite! I had to reinstall everything on my desktop due to a nasty virus a while back and Carbonite restored everything.

The $60 a year is well worth it!

BTW, do you know what started the fire??

Harold , I'm assuming that happened in the building you recently bought . That 's so sad as to the Packard . I'm speechless now ......... Ed Shaver

It doesn't really matter what is worse, since both happened.

Man, it sucks to the square.

I know exactly how you feel. In 1997 I lost my garage/workshop to a fire caused by my 1994 Buick Park Avenue self igniting. The Buick, my 61 Imperial Crown Southampton, my 73 Chrysler Newport and in excess of 1500 unbuilt model kits were destroyed. Since the Imperial and the Newport weren't registered at the time, they weren't insured. Neither was my kit collection. This was only months after a very costly divorce. I never really recovered from this. No matter how strong a character you are, it leaves you traumatized.

Jeez, sad to hear that Harold. That is devastating. Fire is scary stuff... at least take heart that you were not in physical harm. Now you need to cope with all the other stuff. I will re-read what is posted, as I wonder if you mentioned any insurance coverage.

Hope you bounce back from this, man.

The Predictor was really coming along, too. I'd stretched an Edsel ahead of the cowl and started larding on lots of Evergreen sheet and working with a great big file. It was actually looking like something. Arrrrrrrrrgggh!!!!!!! I was able to locate my external drive where all my photo files were at. I plugged it in to my neighbor's computer. It comes on but won't read, so it'll go somewhere for recovery. My Lincoln with the stretched T- Bird chassis- gone. My '66 Mercury with the stretched '65 Ford chassis- vaporized. The '69 Galaxie with the '70 Galaxie chassis with a '65 Galaxie front suspension- gone. Harley- Davidson F- 150 clone and trailer- history. Unbuilt Johan George Folmer Javelin- done in.

Harold, this is the second loss for a modeler in this way that I've heard about in a couple of weeks, and it's awful.

I'm very sorry, and I hope things recover quickly for you. That Predicta was a model you were working on, as opposed to a real car?

Not Predicta, but Predictor (Packard's last show car, and a look at what they wanted to do for '57). Thanks for the offers, guys.

Harold, I'm so sorry to hear this, and I know exactly what you are going through. I lost my house in a fire in 1997 and my entire collection of about 250 kits at that time with it.
