FordRodnKustom Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Here's my latest project. I'm working on an old SMP/AMT '58 Edsel convertible glue bomb. As it came into the shop Ouch! That's ugly I thought about covering the rear fenders with some cruiser skirts but I couldn't find any I liked so I spliced in new rear fender openings from the new issue hardtop kit Fast forward about two weeks to today, lots of sanding! Getting there! I like it.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Wow, that's looking so good already. Keep it going, it's going to be a winner.
deathskull59 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 wow thats a realy bad glue bomb model in the 1st two pics. i guess 2 weeks of hard work will make this ugly little ford edsle in to a very nice kusom. its looking better all ready now.
LAone Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 i agree, the progress looks great. keep up the great work.
W-409 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Really nice build so far, can't wait to see more work. That was in pretty bad shape, but I like how you changed those rear fenders. Keep it coming, like Edsels and Customs are nice too.
Dominik Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 think you shot it on ebay several weeks ago? I think, i saw it... Keep up the resto - it will be a fine car at the end
Sixties Sam Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 That's an amazing transformation! The finished model should be great! Any color scheme in mind? Sam
JasonFL Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I like the look a lot better without the side skirts for sure. Can't wait to see it done
Nova-ss Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 That looks great.its amazing what can be done when you start to rebuild these old cars and trucks from the past that another builder has build once or more times.love it.smokin job! thank you,Chris
FordRodnKustom Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 That's an amazing transformation! The finished model should be great! Any color scheme in mind? Sam Thanks all! I'm thinkin' a turquoise body over white coves. Haven't decided about solids, metallics or pearls yet.
FordRodnKustom Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 I thought it needed a bolder style grill than the stock one. I found this piece in my parts yard...from an old AMT '34 Ford P.U. I think. It'll be sunken back a little further in the housing, this is just a mock up. I like it.
Mike Kucaba Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 That grille should have been on the real car originally.Nice re-use of an old part. How about some MV lenses to replace the headlites?
Guest Johnny Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Before anything else I have to say you have the Best avatar I have seen! repaired just like a 1:1 with patch panels from a solid donor! Love the grill idea! Works great with the car! Looking forward to seeing more!
Sixties Sam Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Thanks all! I'm thinkin' a turquoise body over white coves. Haven't decided about solids, metallics or pearls yet. That sounds perfect to me! Maybe pearl on the white only. I like those old 1950's pastel color schemes. The grille looks good, too. Sam
philo426 Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 That custom grille really does work with the rest f the front clip.I used photo-etched mesh with chrome "horse Collar'

Dr. Cranky Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Making some great progress. Keep it going.
Mark Crowel Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 That pre-restoration photo of your Edsel is bringing back memories of my early model car building efforts, 1962-63. Lots of glue, goopy paint jobs, every accessory in the box stuck on in effort to make it look good, flame job decals... The restoration is looking great. You're breathing new (and better) life into a model that deserves a second chance. Nice work. It' looking right.
