AMT stood for Aluminum Metal Toys if I remember correctly. The late 50's they went into injection molded plastics. They made cars like the promos. I had a few as a kid. Sure wish I still had them. As the quality on promos advanced, those became "just old toys". Most had the friction motor on a metal frame with those heavy steel axles. No interiors and not all had glass windshields and back glass. I remember having a white 53 or 54 Pontiac two door. No interior or glass. The others are gone from my memory. Aaron Dupont

Model, not Metal, but Aaron's on the mark. I think they did a four-door '49 Ford as well, early versions had incorrect 'sucide' rear doors. That one might have had a metal body, though.

amt orignaly did aluminum cars up till 58 or 59 i think..but i could be wrong..then they went molded plastic..

AMT (Alumnum Model Toys--the original company name) made just one cast aluminum toy/model car, that being their first promotional model, the 1947 Ford Tudor Sedan. Starting in 1949, AMT went to Tenite (acetate plastic) for promotional model cars, but used diecast grilles and bumpers out through 1956, that were "flash plated" with chromium or nickel.
