imatt88 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Hey all, Does anyone make photoetch wire wheels for 24th and 25th scale classic cars? Thought I saw an ad for some in a magazine, but I can't remember where now.... Cheers, Ian
Mike Kucaba Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Cheapest I've seen are by Herb Deeks. He sells on ebay as Deeks models. They are the P.E. part meant to be used usually with the kits rims with the plastic "wire" part removed and only the rims and hubs used. Once you look for wire wheels with P.E spokes and aluminum rims the price jumps up. I bought some sets from Deeks and they were $18.00 a set.
Junkman Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Yes, there are. And yes, there are quite a lot of them. But for classics? Not sure. Most of them do Borranis and stuff for Ferraris. And make no mistake, even a PE wire wheel will never be as nice as a laced real wire wheel. For which car do you need them?
Foxer Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Here's Herb Deeks ebay store for your convenience.
GMP440 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Saw at Target the "Cars" movie cars. There is a grey sportscar with wire wheels. They look 1/24 or 1/25 scale. The wire wheels look really nice and could be good for a project.
imatt88 Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 Thanks for the info guys. Saved Herb Deeks into my eBay favs.. Chris, Just thinking about the possibility of replacing the wire wheels on my old Monogram Duesenberg, maybe some of the others as well I also have a Johan Cadillac that needs wire wheel replacements.. Just a thought... Cheers, Ian
jbwelda Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 southeast finecast out of the UK makes (or made...not sure if they are still in business) some really nice ones for an MGB. scroll down this page 2/3rd to the end or so...also scope out some of the kits they make! http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Car_Kits___Scale_1_24.html
misterNNL Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I just checked on-line today(10/10/16) and Southern Finecast still offers these kits from England.
Deathgoblin Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 There's also 3D printed wire wheels. Check these out. I picked up a set and they're nice:http://www.3dmodelparts.com/1-24-1-25-wire-wheels-15-inch-60-spoke/
Dave Ambrose Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 How classic a car? I talked to Herb about using some of his parts for a '29 Chrysler, and he told me they wouldn't work for that era car. Their wheels were too large in diameter.
Art Anderson Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 (edited) How classic a car? Their wheels were too large in diameter.Ian: Yes, just exactly what do you mean by "Classic Car". The wire wheels used on real cars range all over the place in diameter--from about 14" up to perhaps 24" in diameter--all depending on the era and the particular car in question.Art Edited October 13, 2016 by Art Anderson

Deathgoblin Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Sorry about that. Didn't realize they were out of stock.
LDO Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 I'll bet Ian found his answer about five years ago.
