Hey all,

Does anyone make photoetch wire wheels for 24th and 25th scale classic cars?

Thought I saw an ad for some in a magazine, but I can't remember where now....

Cheapest I've seen are by Herb Deeks. He sells on ebay as Deeks models. They are the P.E. part meant to be used usually with the kits rims with the plastic "wire" part removed and only the rims and hubs used. Once you look for wire wheels with P.E spokes and aluminum rims the price jumps up. I bought some sets from Deeks and they were $18.00 a set.

Yes, there are. And yes, there are quite a lot of them. But for classics? Not sure. Most of them do Borranis and stuff for Ferraris. And make no mistake, even a PE wire wheel will never be as nice as a laced real wire wheel.

For which car do you need them?

Saw at Target the "Cars" movie cars. There is a grey sportscar with wire wheels. They look 1/24 or 1/25 scale.

The wire wheels look really nice and could be good for a project.

Thanks for the info guys. Saved Herb Deeks into my eBay favs..

Chris,

Just thinking about the possibility of replacing the wire wheels on my old Monogram Duesenberg, maybe some of the others as well

I also have a Johan Cadillac that needs wire wheel replacements..

Just a thought...

Cheers, Ian

How classic a car? I talked to Herb about using some of his parts for a '29 Chrysler, and he told me they wouldn't work for that era car. Their wheels were too large in diameter.

Ian: Yes, just exactly what do you mean by "Classic Car".   The wire wheels used on real cars range all over the place in diameter--from about 14" up to perhaps 24" in diameter--all depending on the era and the particular car in question.
