Dave42 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Hey, My first post here, (aside from introduction) of the AMT Slingshot dragster from the 3 in 1 kit. First some preliminary nail polish. Added some decals and clear. Lastly a motivational mock-up. Going with the twin mill set-up. Likely most have seen this car many times, hopefully my take will be different enough not to be a bore. Thanks for looking! Dave

High octane Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Looks good Dave as I have one on the bench also. It will be a gas dragster with the single injected small block.
Romell R Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Welcome aboard , that's a very nice build you got goin on there nice and clean , keep up the good work and be sure to keep us posted.
surfjunke Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Coming out nice, so far. Really smoothy paint, too. Nice to see some of the old kits being reissued & being built.
Dave42 Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Hey guys, thank you very much for the compliments. I've checked out some of your work, which is what inspired me to join, very impressed, and look forward to seeing more. Some progress here, but not impressed with my results. I had more trouble wiring this than any time ever before and no real idea why. The wires are a bit too big, which may be part of the problem. Results were too much handling and the evidence is showing pretty badly. I tried to to heat stain the pipes too (a first), not very happy with those either, but better luck next time. Also tried to drill them out a bit and fill with paint, but the Black is too stark of a contrast. Anyway, tried to give these engines a bit of a been running look, but I'll keep practicing. Thanks for looking! Dave
Dr. Cranky Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Nice work. Welcome, and please keep sharing the wonderful eye candy you are producing.
Darren B Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Im liking this build, You are doing an awesome job, I have this kit in the tin and regular box, just needing inspiration like your build to get it going.
Dave42 Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 (edited) Thank you Dr. Cranky, and Darren, your compliments are most flattering. I have continued to roam around this site and I'm not sure if I getting more inspired or more intimidated. The information and talent on this site is overwhelming. To try and get through it in some methodical fashion I thought I'd start with those that have checked in on my stuff. You all do fantastic work and I have truly never seen so much high caliber modeling at any other sites. I hate to be singled out, but at this point I do have to single someone out that has me simply awestruck. Dr. Cranky, you sir...I really don't know what to say besides you have an incredible imagination, and amazing talent and skills to bring those visions to life. I have been pretty consistent in my types of builds, my methods, and my thoughts of what a model should look like...so much for that! A fan of yours for life. Thank you for sharing your craft, and for taking the time to comment on my work. Ok, apologies for being so long winded. Some progress on this build in that I've painted up and assembled the few interior bits, the belts are painted because I didn't have anything that I thought would look better on hand. A bit glossy but I'll try to tone them down. Slapped the body on, put the engines in. Getting close now. Thanks for looking and for entertaining my thoughts of being a builder one day! crazyjim Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 My favorite colors, Dave - red & purple - and SHINY :) .
Bernard Kron Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 (edited) Very nice!!! I'm sure you'll agree that this is one of the all-time fun kits to build - so many variants and so well engineered that there is something about it that brings out the best in everyone who tackles it. Yours is no exception. You've given it your own own personal style. I'm looking forward to seeing it done. I dig all the shininess and clean detail. Edited September 19, 2011 by Bernard Kron
Dave Ambrose Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nice build. I especially like the bit of pinstriping on the cowl. It's the perfect little vintage touch.
Dave42 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Thanks Jim, I love them SHINY too! I have found super inspiration here for trying my hand at weathering some, and I will....but long live the GLOSS! Thanks Bernard, and yes, this was one of my most enjoyable builds. I love these old dragsters, and I'm stoked that you like it. Thanks to Dave, Dr. Cranky, and Shane as well...I have mad respect for all of you guys and I am flattered. Pretty much finished this one up with some fuel lines, no idea if they would have / could have been done this way, but ignorance is bliss! You'll likely find that my builds lean far more towards visual than accurate... ..chute, helmet, etc. Thanks for checking out my stuff!
