crazyjim Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 The whole body is Alclad? Never heard of anybody doing that before. Is that the final finish or does it get cleared and polished? I didn't think you could clear coat Alclad.

Harry P. Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 John, you sure do love your Alclad, don't you? BTW... how durable is a finish like that? Do you have to handle it extra carefully? Does Alclad pick up fingerprints easily? Does it rub off easily, or is it about as durable as a typical paint finish?
gasser59 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 ...and one more question., Can you apply airbrushed paint over alclad?
Nitrozilla Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 ....and one more question. Do you get tired of seeing your huge grin in the reflection when you're working on it? Another unbelievably stunning master model from an unbelievably masterful modeler.
Randy D Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Hi John, This is coming out just amazing!!!! Your custom body work is very original , the detailing is great and your painting is beautiful!!! Randy

Harry.......Alclad will pick up fingerprints really easy.......especially if your fingers are oily .........Alclad will rub off......I heard that you can clear coat over Alclad but,I have no idea what they use.......I am very careful when handling the Alclad painted model.......I have had some areas where the Alclad has rubbed off......but,I just mask off the area and re-airbrush the area ......it look`s just as good as new.......thank`s ...and one more question., Can you apply airbrushed paint over alclad? Brad.......I airbrushed the Tamiya clear paint`s over the Alclad......I`m sure you can airbrush over the Aclad......as long as you test the paint over a test piece of painted Alclad..........thank`s

I have to first off say this paint just is just plain Wicked..... Man it is totally cool. I love how you added the tamiya paint to the front end. it sure looks great. As far as clear coat goes for the Alclad... was going to say that I have picked some up from Alclad in a gloss and matt finish. I haven't gotten to shoot any of it yet on my funny car build but i am super excited to seeing the results you get from it. I will take a pic of the bottle of clears for you and post to show you them. Any tips spraying this stuff?? certain air pressure?? Thanks man!!

Chris.......thank you for the kind comment`s......I like to airbrush the Alclad with about 30- 35 PSI.......I use a single action Paasche with a # 5 tip......I like to alclad when the temperature is cool not to hot .......I mist the alclad on with about 4 coats.......when done it will have a slight dusty look but with a clean soft cloth ......you can gently wipe down and have a nice smooth shinny look......hope that help`s.
Art Laski Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Looks cool, John! Now I see what you were going for. Great job. -Art

Thanks John for explaining the process of how you do it. It will help me for sure since I have never shot alclad before but sounds like its very similar to how I shoot my automotive paints. I also have a single action airbrush other than its a badger. As promised, took a pick of the two different clears I picked up for the Alclad and here they are:

charlie8575 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 A very interesting concept nicely executed. I like the fogging on the front-end, it's different. Charlie Larkin
Dr. Cranky Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Wow, this sliver (Alclad?) is a pleasant surprise. It gives the whole vehicle a stealthy/airplane look. I love it. You are always five steps ahead, John. Keep the eye candy coming.
simonr Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 John, at least to me, one of the best models you had presented here, and is not as detailed as others you have, but this one has a touch! Simón P. Rivera Torres
