Nick Winter Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Put the Impala on the side burner for now so I can build this one, I do have a bit of a personal connection to this build, in the 50's my grandfather worked in Toronto with a large Construction Company, they frequently dealth with TMP, who blocked off street they were working on and escorted their equipment. So I'm trying to get this done for a local show in October, I do plan on building it period correct (Ie 1957 or '58), So Far I've used some red oxide to prime it, and have given the engine a coat of paint, I used the red oxide because it agree's with the newer Revell plastic, my grey primer for some reason dosen't seem to like Revell's Styrene. This example is restored Nick
Dr. Cranky Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Good progress, keep it going. It's a wonderful kit too, should build up real nice.
Darbo Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I like the 1:1 police car , i agree with the Doctor that 150 kit is a great kit to build!
BOSWELL891 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Looks good so far the 150 is one of my favorite kits to build, the possibilities with it are endless.
gasser59 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 You've got a good start going. I also love this kit. I built a midwestern stock car out of the first one I build and the next one will be a gasser. Go figure...
Nick Winter Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Thanks Guys. Little more done on my '57, still need to touch up around the lips of the hood and BMF the body. Had to Chuckle under my workbench stacked is a '57 Chrysler, '58 Plymouth and '59 Chrysler Nick
Foxer Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 It's always to build something close to you like that .. and something different to boot! That sure is some good looking paint there ... nice decals too!
Nick Winter Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Metropolitian ? ment to fix that, little late now, might still be able too. It's always to build something close to you like that .. and something different to boot! That sure is some good looking paint there ... nice decals too! thanks.
W-409 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Nice job with it, great to see some commercial vehicles being built.... That paintjob is really nice, and I like those decals. Engine looks good so far. Keep it going, I'm watching this one.
VW Dave Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Metropolitian ? I hoped I wasn't the only one who spotted that. ment to fix that, little late now, might still be able too. I'm guessing you won't be able to. All kidding aside, Nick, I think it's a great looking model with a nice backstory.
Nick Winter Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Fixed everything last night. As you can see it's awaiting BMF. Nick
VW Dave Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I think it looks great so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing it wrapped up. Be very careful foiling that side spear where it goes onto the door; if those decals aren't cleared, the excess foil might pull them up when you remove it. I'd recommend using just enough foil to cover that part of the spear, and don't let it get on the decaled area.
Nick Winter Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Thanks Dave, Yes the decals are cleared, though I'll be careful and use the just enough method anyway. Nick
Nick Winter Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 First a short and true story, December 20th 1957, a young boy and his mother are walking to the Eaton centre (large mall in Toronto that used to do big toy displays) The Boy and his mother stop to look at the toy display, the mother starts to walk away and calls to the boy to come, the mother finds that as she enters the mall that her son is nowhere to be seen, she panics, in the meantime a Toronto Metro police officer while patroling the area spots the young boy alone looking at the large display, he stops his cruiser and approches the boy, he takes the boy to the station, the 52 Division station to be exact, the police officers entertain the boy till his mother arrives at the station to see the boy wearing one of the officers hats and eating an ice cream cone, they are reunited, the officer who found the boy, Drives him and his mother home in Ajax. The Boy was my father at age 7, The Mother was my Grandmother. Been tinkering slowly on this one, Here's where I'm at. Nick
Nick Winter Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 http://gmsportssalva..._serialNumber=1 hey Nick, you've got your carburetor sideways and the fuel line plumbed into the choke. you may also want to re-route your plug wires down behind the heads and up to the spark plug locations from below. the way they are now will interfere with the exhaust manifolds. note: the image above is a 348 in a '59 El Camino but the 4-barrel carb is the same style that was on the '57 283 Okay thanks Dave, never done a fuel line before and the instructions weren't clear how the carb should be mounted, I'll see what I can do to fix it.
Haubenschild Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 What colour did you use to paint your engine?
RodneyBad Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) Great looking Chevy Nick. Outside of MrZinns observation (he does know his Stuff ya know ) Nice story too.. Edited October 16, 2011 by RodneyBad
Tom Setzer Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Nice Build you've got started. I was going to say something about the carb., but i got beat to it. I went to our local Micheal's and got the deal of a life time, four 150 Black Widow Kits on their mark down table for $2.49 USD each, I grabed all four! I love 57s. CHEERS! Tom
mikemodeler Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Metropolitian ? That is how it is spelled in Canada Dave! Next time consult your USA to Canadian spell check! Nice model there Nick, your skills have come a long way recently!
John Teresi Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Nicholas.......nice project.....great progress.......gonna be cool man.
Nick Winter Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys, just got home from moose hunting, but before I left I got everything straightened out, just gotta touch it up and take a picture of it, soon as I get a rest. Nick I used Testors Acrylic Orange, it's the best thing IMO for painting Chev orange engines. (some Mopars too) Edited October 18, 2011 by Nick Winter
