Brutalform Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I was just browsing on Ebay, trying to find some cool wheels, to add to my parts bin. I always take a look on the site hoping to find 60's era slotted mags....but anyway, there is one seller on there, who is asking RIDICULOUS prices for stuff that is parted out of kits. For example...they will take the four rims and tires from a kit, then have a "buy it now" for 23.99, with a 4.99 shipping charge, then say they WILL NOT combine shipping to boot. You can buy two complete kits for that price! I do understand that "there is a sucker born every minute", and no one is forced into buying anything, but, how can someone actually get buyers for this stuff???? I look at at the feedback, and people indeed DO buy this stuff. I totally understand that there are hard to find parts for our projects, but this stuff is out there in inexpensive readily available kits......I dunno...just thought I would post this...and I do understand, if "you do not agree with the price, don't buy it".

I also have seen that vender, They had a set of 72-76 Dodge Truck wheelcovers I wanted, But almost $30 for 4 tires, Wheel backs And the wheelcover? Come on,you could possibly get lucky and find a decent started kit for that amount, Thats just crazy.
Rob Z Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 the sad part is, if it's who i think you may be referring to, that guy sells a LOT of parts from kits too for those prices. Ebay used to be a decent place for finding model stuff, hasn't been for a long time now though. I agree with you there Dave... I have seen this seller rip apart beautiful kits and part them out probably getting 4x the actual value of the kit...
Brutalform Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Yea Dave...I think we are on the same page. Not only the wheels, but a body, seats, engine, all from one kit, and all for about the same prices I mentioned. By the time you total them up, its like 96.00 that i can "buy it now" from another seller for around 23.00 shipped.
Brutalform Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) WOW I cant believe how many posts came up as I was replying to Mr Zinn........ I should really learn to type faster!!!!! Edited September 23, 2011 by Brutalform
Eshaver Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Tom, problem extends to a lot of vendors who get into a business like this and then , somehow they too get perverted . Let me give you an example . You find some guy who finds / maybe buys a whole lot of model parts , some kits at auction . The same person really has no working knowledge of what stuff realistically should go for . Now , lets say , pieces are badly chromed , scratched . he goes to E-bay and sees some stupid speculative price listed . He repeats what he sees, it then becomes repetitious . Ed Shaver
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Man I't just makes me sick, to see that stuff on ebay, parting out great kits, out of date kits, just to make a bigger buck, they act like it's a chop shop, so sad, but like you guys said theres a sucker born every minute.

Ed Shaver I guess, it is a business, no matter how you look at it, and if you can actually get the price, then, you win. I understand making a profit and all, but a 500% profit?? But some people DO buy them still....
Brutalform Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Ed, you sure you are on the right forums? Now that's funny ...right there!!!!
Wayne Buck Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Yep, I was just thinking about this exact topic while on ebay the other day. I always come across this "seller" that I think everyone is probably referring to. I guess it's not proper to give his name on here, especially since it's HIS stuff and has the right to ask whatever he wants for it, but I've wanted to send him a message on the 'bay several times to "express my feelings" towards his pricing. It wouldn't be a friendly message, that's for sure! So, I just said "to heck with it"... If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all, I guess! I always see a Honda mini trail (or trail 70/90...forget exactly what it is ATM) on there that I'd really like to have that's been parted out of the Ford Destroyer Monster Truck kit, but this guy wants 20 bucks for it! Like Crazy Eddy, his prices are INSANE! ...except, the other way around!

I understand making a profit and all, but a 500% profit?? But some people DO buy them still.... That's a BIG part of the problem right there. Some people DO buy them. However, I would think with the listing fees and all, the guy would make the same or more profit if he sold stuff at reasonable prices. From what I remember, when I sold on ebay, the higher the Buy it Now price, the more it costs to list. Unless the selling fee structure has changed. Edited September 23, 2011 by Wayne Buck

Dr. Cranky Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 If people buy the stuff, then the sellers are encouraged to keep doing the price gouging. I no longer even buy off AMAZON because they really nail you on shipping costs.
TurboKitty Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Doesn't this make you wonder why there aren't more people listing stuff on emodelcars though? Yes I know eBay has the market place, but that would (hopefully) change if the word was spread about emodelcars. Then people wouldn't have to bite the bullet and pay such ridiculous prices just to get the kit or parts they want. Fewer people giving in and buying from these types of sellers will cause those sellers to lower prices (again, hopefully) in order to try to bring business back. Hit 'em where it hurts.........the wallet.
High octane Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 To date I have NEVER been on evil-bay and from a lot of the stories that I have heard over the years, it seems like I'm not really missing anything. Seems to work for me.
2000-cvpi Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I have seen this seller before and he/she/or it is one of the reasons that I stopped even looking on Ebay. I would never pay that kind of money for a part. I would much rather spend time looking at flea markets, garage sales, toy shows, and lhs.
Guest Johnny Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I agree with you there Dave... I have seen this seller rip apart beautiful kits and part them out probably getting 4x the actual value of the kit... 1:1 car guys have that same issue! Guys buying up desirable, rebuildable cars and selling them piece at a time and making a killing doing it!

I think my Ebay browsing days are done! It's to the point where I see an item, and before even clicking on it, I KNOW who is selling it, just by the expensive price.
Wayne Buck Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 It's to the point where I see an item, and before even clicking on it, I KNOW who is selling it, just by the expensive price. LOL! Ditto on that one! For some of the stuff on there, you could buy the REAL 1:1 part for nearly the same price! Maybe that's why he states in big bold lettering "These parts are for model cars and not real ones" (..or something to that effect) At least he's kind enough to make sure nobody is mislead!
martinfan5 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I saw the some of this sellers listing, one of the was the tire/wheel set from AMT Dodge ram dullay, price I think was $25 , could not believe that. I was looking to see if any was selling the can do wrecker, I found one that was close to $ 400

Dont let few a hundred bad apples ruin ebay for you , you know buyers are not any better, I sold a blackberry of mine the first week of this month, well because the seller has not left feed back for it yet, I still have not received my money. The money part is all paypal, but still Edited September 23, 2011 by martinfan5

RodneyBad Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 dont forget but you can also find "STEALS" on there as well if you look closely! thats how i found half of what i own! Ditto..
Kaleb Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Ditto.. Same here, I do find mine at flea markets etc, but I do an easy search Unless your looking for something specific that you know will be a high price Here is how I start, since I am pretty much open to cars and trucks I set my max price I feel at that point, which is pretty much 7.00, then I click on ending soonest. I get some great ones that way.
Guest Johnny Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Some times I think it is some guy whose wife told him he had to sell it.
