Is it me or the pics - the paint looks very thick, but it's SHINY :) :) :)

I had just painted the body so the paint does look a little thick. Also, I had to compensate for the bright light in the paintbooth with the camera settings so the paint wouldn't look orange.

Once again, my painting prowess (or lack thereof) has struck again. I wetsanded a flaw on the hood down and then repainted with one light coat which ran down to the edge of the hood and bubbled up while drying.

And now, the hood is in the purple pond taking a bath.

I was hoping to have completed this one by now for the next Classic Plastic Model Club meeting, but fatigue and the lack of time to work on this build is starting to frustrate me. At work, my boss is finally starting to get the idea that our current set-up and schedule is not working and change is in the wind. It had better land on earth sooner than later!

Thanks guys! But, it is not the stripping and repainting that gets me down...that's just disappointing. It's the lack of time available to me to do anything besides work my job and around the house...that is just frustrating me to no end! With winter just around the corner, and all other projects near complete, I hope to have more time for building.

Hey there Mike! I hear ya mate.... But you're closer to retirement than this young pup! Lol! Just never seem's to be enough time in the day, week, month, year or years for this frustrating, but passionate, hobby of ours! Even more so when you're on a roll :-(

Had a great paint job going on my current Merc' SLS... 'til I got over-enthusiastic with the wet-sanding & sanded through to primer in some areas.... So it copped an over-night Easy-off bath & finger's crossed I'll go easy-off on the 2nd attempt of wet-sanding, once I've let it gas-out properly this time! ;-)

Cheers & good luck with the hood, Cliffo. :-)

Cliffo, I just worked a 62 hour week and I just don't understand how I made it through! I am physically and emotionally exhausted and I just couldn't wait to get to the bench yesterday mornig and again today. I have a few outdoor projects to do today, which will be quick and easy and then I'll be back at the bench later to continue work on the Shelby and my '64 GTO.

The hood is out of the purple pond and ready for primer and paint.

Several coats of paint and the hood is looking great!.

I wanted a simple way to paint the trim around the windows. I started with a piece of 3M Painters Tape and pressed it into the channel with my thumb nail.

GT50042.jpg

Using a scribing tool I pushed the tape further into the channel and then cut the tape with a new blade in my hobby knife.

The end result...a clean masking and paint job!

A quiet Saturday morning gave me the time I needed to get the stripe decals on.

I'll let these dry for a day and then clearcoat the body tomorrow.

And, shiny it will be! I have heard complaints about these decals going bad when cleared. I clear using very light coats and building up the clear until I am happy with the gloss.

Me three! Me three!

Clearcoating was the order of the day. Several very light coats of Tamiya TS-13 built over a span of 15 minutes and a wet coat of clear half an hour later.

I'll let this dry for a while before I polish it out.

Last night I installed the body over the interior and chassis and then went to bed. This morning I looked in on the Shelby only to find that the drivers side of the front had separated from the fender. It reminded me of the issue my friend Randy had with his Grabber Blue 2010 Mustang GT.

I have since repaired the joint, will attempt to touchup the chipped paint (my fault), and continue with assembly. While that was drying, I found some images on Google Images of the open element air filter that is on the 2011 Shelby GT500. I have made one out of some sheet styrene and will be painted semigloss black.

When I get the body and chassis reunited, I'll add the new airbox and make any adjustments necessary for a proper fit.
