Chuck Most Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 First off, we have these- They are US Royal "Master" narrow whites with very nice sidewall detail but no tread to speak of. I know Replicas and Miniatures reproduces these in resin, but what kit were these from originally? And these- Both of them are Firestone Deluxe Champion slicks, the one on the left is marked as 9.00-15, and the one on the right is marked as 7.60-15 and has slightly sharper lettering detail than the wider slick. I'd appreciate any help!
george 53 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I believe the whitewalls are Jo Han tires, the slicks are from old AMT kits. Sorry I can't be more specific.
Draggon Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 The whitewalls are indeed early 60's Revell items, I had a set from the 56 Ford Pickup. The earliest kit I remember those slicks being in was the AMT 40 Willys/Custom 32 Ford sedan. I've managed to score a few sets on ebay, and got a resin set from Missing Link Resin Casters.
Chuck Most Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Wern't the slicks the original tires in the AMT Lotus indy car kit from about '65? You MIGHT be thinking of these- These are two-piece hollow plastic though- the others in the first post are solid vinyl. Thanks for the responses guys!
Art Anderson Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Wern't the slicks the original tires in the AMT Lotus indy car kit from about '65? The tire sizes of those "slicks" are pretty close to Firestone Deluxe Champion racing tires as used at Indianapolis by Team Lotus and about 15 other race teams (all Offy roadsters) in 1963. They're not drag slicks, but rather a fairly crude attempt at a Firestone speedway tire of that year. Dunno what kit they might have come from though. (just a thought, are they 1/25 scale, or smaller? Art
Chuck Most Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Did find pics of the RMCoM US Royals- can't see in the photo how they fortified the tread but it does say 'now w/ bias-ply tread', so they must have improved over the originals- Edited October 18, 2011 by Chuck Most

Draggon Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) I can't see the original pictures, but all of the Revell whitewalls are the same. Casey, the ones you posted are just like the ones I referred to from the 56 pickup. Edited April 5, 2018 by Draggon

Those are the only scale model "classic" US Royal Master tires, that were ever done by any model car kit mfr (so very popular on show-car customs circa 1961-about 1964). Be aware though, that Revell tooled them more than a bit too large to fit most all 1/25 scale model car kits, save for their own model cars tooled and released in the 1960's (learned that over 50 yrs ago!) Mark Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 The first-issue Revell '57 Chevy had the US Royal tires also. The center holes are a bit larger than typical AMT/MPC to fit Revell wheels. Keep in mind too, these tires are made of that nasty "plastic eating" vinyl. If you use original tires as opposed to modern copies, either mount them to resin wheels or use a good "barrier" on your plastic wheels where they contact the tires...
