Skydime Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 That's a very nicely detailed motor in that thing. I like it because it has the "bells and whistles" of a detail job under the hood but, looks real enough to show what it would look like if used to race.
W-409 Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Super clean build! Is it modified from '41 Willys, or is it Resin or something? Detailing is great, and that works fine with gray primer. Wheel choice is prefect, and this is really Nostalgic and Old School Drag Racer, that's why I like it.
pharr7226 Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Awesome work on this Willy's! How did you get the decals to look so good on flat paint? Also what paint did you use on the carbs?
Draggon Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Whoa, this is so cool! I dig that its not all nice and shiny like most all the Willys we see. Great job!
Olds Rocket 88 Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 The Willys was an R&R Vacuum Craft resin and came as a kit, but I wouldn't recommend it to any one..... the body was very rough and took a lot of time and filler, the interior bucket needed major work to fit, and the frame was so worthless I threw it away. As far as the decal's, painted regular testors flat primer grey, glossed cleared body, used micro set then micro sol when laying the decals, then finished with a coat of flat clear. The carbs I painted gold, then dry brushed with aluminum, then lightly washed with the detailer in black, then flat cleared. Gotta love those gassers.....
cotto Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 This thing just has the classic look, great job man.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Another winner! Congrats. Keep feeding us eye-candy, you know we appreciate it! Cheers.
High octane Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Ron, I DO love those gassers and yours really looks great!
pepperdrumstix Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 This is so cool. It would be ear -splitting loud and scary fast out on those drag strips and farm roads in PA. Great detailing on the motor. Good tip on the carb painting. Love your work. Saw the "Shorty Ford" and it was another one of a kind build with neat detailing. Keep up the fine building and these real looking cars. A fan way out in Phx that has family in central PA. P.S. Did you ever see the ABC movie "Hot Rod" also known as "The Rebel of The Road"? It has a Hemi powered '40 Willys in primer and it reminds me some what of this one. Patrick
LAone Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 WOW..i like the engine details. great looking ride.
Mr.Zombie Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Did you just unpack everything that you built? Ever? That is the third thing that I dig as hell. Only the front tires look a bit odd... Other than that it is outstanding! Love the Hemi!
Terry Sumner Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 What a cool old school Gasser!!! Just about everything looks right...except for that Accel Coil... Didn't have them for the time period that Willys is representing. If that 1961 NHRA sticker is indicative of the time period that is...
krazyglu Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 It just happens that I love everything you build. Great subjects, super clean style and one off out of the box thinking add up to some awesome model kits Ron. Lets see some more.
gasser59 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Stunning build. I agree with all of the above comments and really feel you captured the early gasser style accurately. I'd love to see this jump off the line and run down the strip, screaming all the way.
