wgflatliner Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 and final pics. kit was great fun! cranky are you going to have an under glass segment for the build-off?
Big Daddy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Mark what colour of green is that you used i'm building mine and want to go with the green
wgflatliner Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Do you have an airbrush? I did enamel to start, Boyd's ice blue pearl as a base followed up with a coat of tamiya ts-60 pearl green.
W-409 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I've done some painting on the seats, but no picture yet. I must do just very little cleaning before I can post picture.
Chuck Most Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 And finished the interior. Bare boned it, and sprayed it in Krylon Hunter Green.
Dominik Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 (edited) Nice builts - all of them. I hope, i will see them in the Under Glass section? After my first completed built (perhaps, you remember him)... ...i ordered another one and the "Phantom" Stationwagonbody from Jimmy Flintstone... That was last month. Cant take my hands off from this fabulos kit. Mounted the Engine the same like may first built... ...to the completed chassis and tested the bodies fitting: It works! But...i dont like this view from the windowline and roof. There is so many space between the passenger door and the back. Dont liked that, so i cutted out all the "columns", carved new door surrounds (?) and built new columns: Now, i think, it looks like a more balanced optik. Next step after a lot of sanding and filling with putty i primed the body: Thats it - from this Hudson in progress. Today, i made the paintjob in a two-tone-colorsheme. A kind of turquoise and old white, but have no actual pictures. More will come up, thanks for patience buddies Edited January 22, 2012 by Dominik
Chuck Most Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I like that! The Jimmy Flintstone body looks a bit better as a four door.
Chuck Most Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Handyman is in the home stretch- we're down to adding the last few fiddly, boring, non-photoworthy details that make all the difference. I painted the wheels silver (rear wheels are from an AMT '49 Ford)- they and the chassis are now permanently installed, along with most of the engine.
BOSWELL891 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Looks good, I'm almost done lowering mine, i made the front spindles sit up higher and shaved the frame down in the back to get er pretty low
tabsscale1 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Trying to get the engine from the revll 59 Cadillac to fit in my Hudson
Dominik Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Chuck, that Pick up looks very cool! What have you done with the chromeparts? They look realistic to the overallview for a craftsman's car. "Cheap" with no expensive chrome and trim. Like it! Todd, that looks amazing!
tabsscale1 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Think i will go with these air filters on the carb set up
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Chuck, that Pick up looks very cool! What have you done with the chromeparts? They look realistic to the overallview for a craftsman's car. "Cheap" with no expensive chrome and trim. Like it! Todd, that looks amazing! On the bumpers- I cut off the guards and licence plate frames and sanded them smooth. All of the chrome parts were stripped and painted with Duplicolor Bumper Chrome, which is actually just a bright silver- it kind of looks like the paint used on 'cheap' pickups in the '50's instead of chrome. I was going for a kind of 'base model' look on this one.
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Todd- love the Cad mill in these. I used the Parts Pack Cad in the green '52, but the Merc engine is quite a bit less fiddly to work with!
tabsscale1 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Chuck i thought aout both of those but I had this Revell 59 Caddy engine i wasn't going to use in the kit so I went with it.
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Good a reason as any. And why did I call it a 'Merc' engine?
Dominik Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Thanks Chuck for explaining to me. You hit the "base model" look perfect in my view!
tabsscale1 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Well I got the design done and painted on mine. Just need to wait for the paint to dry and then pinstripe the scallops.
Chuck Most Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Gonna look awesome once the scallops are striped. Put the wraps on the '53 pickup variant this morning- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53486 Now it looks like I'll switch back to the '52, and maybe start another custom version, this one being quite a bit more extreme than the first two.
wgflatliner Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Mr cranky are you going to save a compilation of all the completed builds for an under glass thread?
Dr. Cranky Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Mark, that's a great idea! And Todd, the Scalloped Hudson, well, what can I say? It's wonderful, and I look forward to seeing it done.
