935k3 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 For anybody that likes these cars SPEED is broadcasting the entire BATHURST 1000 race from Australia this Saturday night. It starts at 7:00 PM and is about 6-7 hrs long. They are sending Darell Waltrip and Mike Joy over to do the anouncing. I watched this one on the internet last year. It's great door slamming racing on a very scenic circuit. The circuit is known as Mount Panorama.
Rob Z Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Been seeing the adds for this one, think I'm going to DVR it and watch it another day when I don't have to stay up til 1 or 2 in the morning... Never seen the Bathurst race but have heard allot about it, looking forward to hearing DW try to keep up with this one...
Roger U Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Thanks for posting this reminder. I plan on watching at least some of the race, depending how busy I am. Saw part of another V8 Super Car race from Australia and it was quite interesting, lots of action and great sounding cars.
CAL Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Oh yeah, I been counting the days. V8 supercars, that is their biggest race of the year. LIVE. F1 from Japan Live also this weekend.
warra48 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I can watch this live on local TV, but it bores the ###### out of me. Bathurst is a great track, very challenging, and probably worth watching for a while for the uninitiated just for that. However, our local V8 Supercar Race Series only allows 2 makes of cars, the local Ford Falcon, and the local Holden Commodore (GM product). The engines aren't local ones, and are imported US V8 units. It's a racing series designed for what we locals call Bogans (Trailer Park Trash, or K Mart people, just descriptive, without wanting to offend). Bogans are people who haven't learned to count past 2, thus only the two makes of cars allowed. We get quite a lot of Nascar here on TV, and I find that more interesting than our V8 Supercars.
martinfan5 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 If I remember and have time I am going to watch it, I love my NASCAR, but I like to watch all forms of racing when I have the time. I think I will DVR it as well, I am looking forward to hearing Mike Joy calling the race for us state's side, I am hoping that Darrell Waltirp got held up in customs and wont be there
Darbo Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I agree with Warra48 on this, it's a very nice track but these days it's too narrow to pass and all the cars are so equal it's near impossible, It definately bores me too along with F1 as no one can pass. But for all you Americans that haven't seen Bathurst before you will not believe how fast the track is and i hope you get to see all the "in car" shots also!. Over the years Scott Pruett and Tommy Kendall have raced Bathurst and i think it scares them the first time they cut a few laps, so i reckon if they get Waltrip and Mike Joy a couple of hot laps they will "######" also.
disabled modeler Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Love the Aussie super cars/muscle cars Falcon and Holden....many of the vehicles from there need to be available as plastic kits.
Guest Sickfish Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Have to agree with my 2 other fellow Aussies... The Track, Mt Panorama is our BEST track but watching 6-7hrs of ONLY 2 different makes, Ford & Holden is boring... Like watching paint dry What make's it worse is, & same goe's for NASCAR, they all look the same. Back in the late 80s through to mid 90s it was a way better race because there were more than 2 manufacturers. They had Jags, Nissans & others... The Nissan GTRs won it a couple of time's & were so good they got banned & the rules were changed, not dis-similar to NASCAR/Dodge/Plymouth.... Hence only Falcons & Commodores remain. Boring. I can honestly say it's ( The Race ) is losing it's popularity because of this. As a Mopar fan I'd love to see the new Hemi Challengers or Chargers take on the Falcons/CommoBores.

Funny you put it that way Rob, a lot of people here who prefer F1 and Rally have that same opinion of NASCAR fans. Bathhurst does sound a bit like Road America though......only the race cars actually resemble what they're supposed to be instead of stickered up jellybeans. Edited October 7, 2011 by Joe Handley
Joe Handley Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Come to think of it, Seeing a Charger mixing it up with the Falcons and Monaros would be pretty freakin' cool!
Tony T Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Interesting. I always thought that AV8SC was what NASCAR should aspire to...they look more like the street car, more road courses, that kind of thing...yet, over there you guys think it should be more like NASCAR...I understand the limits of a two make series, but there are several series that are one make...for example, Porsche Cup. Highlights the driver more than the car. I haven't watched a AV8SC race since the cable company moved SPEED up to the higher cable package, so will have to see if I can find it online. I'd love to have a Falcon Ute, but I don't see Ford bringing that over to Canada! F150 is just too big now and I think they are about to end Ranger production. No market for car-based pickups unfortunately and it seems the small pickup segment is gone too.
Eric Stone Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 The grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.
Hypermung Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 The Track, Mt Panorama is our BEST track ........ You're (sort of) absolutely right there.. Not only is it Australia's best track, it's the best track in the Southern Hemisphere, & all of you in the US should be glad that someone over there has the fore-sight to offer it for you to view. Do yourself a favour & grab some of it if you can....This race has a long background as being the Premier road race in Australia, with an equally long list of legends that have forever immortalised their names as winners in history. It dosen't matter if you don't win another race all year.... If you win Bathurst, then you're a Demi-god. I don't consider myself a 'Trailer trash Bogan' , BUT this is the one day of the year that I can get a slab of ice cold beer, sit my behind in front of the idiot box, & enjoy a day of racing without having to 'Mow the lawn' or 'Wash the car' or 'Flea the dog' , or any-one of a million other things that 'should have priority' over anything that I want to do (she knows better than that)........ LONG LIVE THE BATHURST 1000.

We don't get that here, but if that's where it is...Grab some of it !!!
Nick F40 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) ^ your not missing much, Velocity (formely HD Theater) is better Interesting. Production based bodies, real engines from the manufactures and so on. and it's funny that the Aussie guys said that because what you guys wrote is EXACLTY what a good bit of Americans, including myself think of NASCAR I always make sure to watch the endurance race from Bathurst every year Edited October 8, 2011 by Nick F40
bill_rules Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Leave it to Speed to mess up a good night of racing by sending Mike Joy and Darrell Waltrip over there to run there egotistical mouths. I'll be watching with the volume muted.
Nick F40 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 hahaha that's a shame, because you won't hear those beautiful sounding 5 litres
Nick F40 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 anyone else notice the Colin McRae and Mark Webber pics that are for a couple of the drivers hahaha
Rob Hall Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Enjoying the coverage...what a track. Beautiful location also...would love to see an F1 race on this track. Fun to hear DW covering it..
Nick F40 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 always loved this track, always loved the V8 Supercars, and seeing full coverage of it is just awesome
Hypermung Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Enjoying the coverage...what a track. Beautiful location also...would love to see an F1 race on this track. Fun to hear DW covering it.. You really can't get a true perspective of this track until you actually drive it (remember for the other 51 weeks this is a public road). The road up to the top is steep, & once on the top & you go over Skyline (called that because all you can see is sky), it drops down thru some nasty twisties even steeper. To go over the top @ 80kph is nerve wracking... & these guys go over at twice that speed.... They must have some BIG hairy coconuts believe me.
Joe Handley Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 From the way Darryl Waltrip was talking during his ride around the track, That sounds pretty accurate! He may have needed to scrape his underwear clean by the time they returned to the pits....... LOL!
