martinfan5 Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) I am always ready to build something, I will get paint on the bullitt this weekend, but I am kinda of thinking doing a lip spoiler on the front, but not sure if I want to keep a OOB, or not Edit- just in case you guys were wondering what tires I am have on the bullitt( I know you guys are not), those are the tires from Revells custom silverado Edited December 10, 2011 by martinfan5
whale392 Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Stephen, gotta tell you man, those seats look GOOD! I like the contrast between the leather/vinyl shell and the perforated inlays; did you do that with Semi-gloss and Flat paints (black)? Or is it some other color you used on the inlays? Jonathan, this is only my opinion, so take it as you will. The green just looks too light. Highland Green is a fairly dark shade. However, it is your build and what you do with it is the product of what you have to work with. I like the progress so far.
martinfan5 Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) Bradley, thank you for your input, thats why I am asking you guys what you think, I was thinking that myself that the green I got is just a little to light. I am open to peoples thoughts an opinions, as long as they are put in a nice way . I will see if I can a darker shade of green this weekend, I have a long list paints I need to get . I tested it on a spare body and it came out darker on the spare Edited December 10, 2011 by martinfan5
Chuck Most Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Does look a bit light, although the workbench area looks pretty brightly lit. Were you using a flash when you took the photo? That could make the color appear even lighter in photos.
whale392 Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Jonathan, If you are going for the utmost accuracy, use the Dupli-Color touch-up bottle paint by the name of Highland Green Metallic (Ford paint code PX, Dupli-Color product code NGFM372), as it is correct for the Bullitt shade. Just be sure to lay down a layer of Future before you apply color-coat or it will craze the plastic (my attempt at a 2006 Bullitt wears crazed paint because of this). If close will do you up right, use the Model Master Lacquer System GM Emerald Green Metallic (#28119) over a black base. It will get you very close to the Ford color. Either way, use a quality clear over it, as they both come out somewhat satin (well, the Dupli-Color more than the MM). Chuck, Did you say snow? We have seen a little bit here, but nothing lasting yet! Hope that stuff doesn't stick around, as this Florida Boy just don't like it!
Chuck Most Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Right now just frost- never did get around to taking the Bullit out of the case and photographing it. Maybe today... Not much to write home about- just threw it together one weekend, didn't fix the ride height or anything- just kinda banged it together and called it a day. Kind of an emotional thing I guess... I came pretty close to buying an '08 Bullitt when the cars were new but (insert long boring story here) ended up not buying one and was elated when Revell kitted it.
martinfan5 Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) I had the flash off, but I have a floresent light so I know that changes the way colors look , I did think about using the dupicolor green but my last time using dupicolor paints , I did not have the best of luck. I use dupicolor primers and sealers, but the paint I am still iffy on using at the moment. I am going to make the trip to hobby lobby today, and see what they have in the way of green , and go from there. Here is an outside pic, with the interior and spare body, Edited December 10, 2011 by martinfan5
Chuck Most Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 '91 SHO.... Bullitt edition. All it needs now are some five-spokes. Off topic tip- if you own a '94-up F-Series or full size Bronc and want to model it, you can use the steering wheel from an AMT '91-up SHO. Not sure if they are the same wheel in 1:1, but in 1:25 it looks like the F-series airbag wheel. ALL the AMT kits have the '92/3 non-airbag wheel.
Olskoolrodder Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 We just rolled in from dinner out (the Wife's and my weekly thing),and guess what was parked-in the handicapped spot next to mine-right next to us....a '08-09 BLACK Bullitt! Chatted with him a bit whilest we was waiting to be called for a table,he too's an Army Vet,and bought his new. Thanks for the compliment on the seats. Actually,it's all the exact same color, shot from the same rattlecan all at the exact same shooting\moment. Duplicolor's Universal Black, uncleared.
martinfan5 Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Yea I had a few of the show kits built, but some how managed to lose both the hoods for them, and they had seen better days, so I use them for test bodys. Chuck, you are right about the steering wheels Edit- so the bullitts come in black too?, I picked up a can of MM GM Emerald Green Metallic, so I will be able to get it painted to tomorrow. Steve, I used the same black you used on various builds and I had nothing but bad luck with it. On a side not, while at Hobby Lobby, I decided to get a thing of testor's liquid cement, and OMG does it smell bad, really strong Edited December 11, 2011 by martinfan5
Rick Schmidt Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Hmmm airbags musta been an option. Old Red is a 92 and I'm pretty sure the way the wheel has a convieniently placed split its an airbag wheel. Not gonna go mash a small car to find out tho lol. Back on topic. Bullits could be had in black. I know they aren't original looking in black but they look so ###### awesome in black! If i end up stripping my 08 for the clear goof It's goin black this go round
Rick Schmidt Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Oh yea know it's off topic but if that taurus is smooth and such and aside from a missing hood is buildable I'd try to save it I believe it was the 91 SHOs that were very rare in emerald green

If i end up stripping my 08 for the clear goof It's goin black this go round If it's the kind in the AMT kit, no airbag. The airbag wheels had a big, squarish hub, four short spokes. with the horn buttons on the top spokes. They might have been optional prior to '94, but none of the '92/3 wheels I've seen had an airbag.
Olskoolrodder Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Mustang's had airbags from '90 and on,Mom n Pop bought 2 new ones (both LX hatches, hers a 2.3L his a 5.0L) in '89,and I remember Dad saying he was glad he'd bought one before the airbags came out (as a new tech,he thought poorly of em,LOL),and Mom saying she wanted to trade up a year to get one, being alls about safety. '89s got the 140 MPH speedo (V8 cars only),replacing the 85MPH units used in EVERYthing in the 80's. When they got the airbags in '90,Mustangs also lost the tilt steering column. (I also checked this out with Ford before just going on memory,FWIW) Edited December 11, 2011 by Olskoolrodder
mrmike Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I feel like the odd man out here having very little time for my Shelby. Or anything else for that matter! The hood is out of the purple pond and ready for primer and paint. Several coats of Tamiya Bright Red and the hood is looking great! I wanted a simple way to paint the trim around the windows. I started with a piece of 3M Painters Tape and pressed it into the channel with my thumb nail. Using a scribing tool I pushed the tape further into the channel and then cut the tape with a new blade in my hobby knife. The end result...a clean masking and paint job! More to come...
martinfan5 Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Mike- welcome back , very nice work on the painting the trim, I was kind of thinking that of trying something like that last night, now I am going to have to that a try Having some really nice painting weather today, so I am getting a bunch of stuff painted today, I got the bullitt painted, what do you guys think? Edited December 11, 2011 by martinfan5
Olskoolrodder Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Mike: AWESOME tip on trim paint (wish I'd thought of that,LOL! NEXT build in the series though ),and looking great too! Jonathan: Looking GREAT!
Captain Obvious Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Mark if you would like to join this build let me know and I will add you on the list, very nice mustang you built there, what blue did you use? Thanks for the offer (and apologies for the late reply lol), but I think I'll watch this one from the sidelines. The paint I used was Testors GTS Blue Pearl lacquer over a white base coat. Thanks for the compliments! Edited December 12, 2011 by Captain Obvious
martinfan5 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 I am about half way on the bullitt , I will get some pics soon of what I have done so far
whale392 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Welcome back, Mike. Took a page from you and am working on a back-story for my 2010GT build. I always liked to read (even if I never commented) your McNally stories and watch the builds progress. Thanks for the literary inspiration! Jonathan, the color looks a LOT closer than the color you started with, Looks good in the sunlight (and warm.....something us northern guys are not going to get for the next 5 months!).
martinfan5 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 And its raining today, we went from a nice and sunny day to rain.
Olskoolrodder Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I am about half way on the bullitt , I will get some pics soon of what I have done so far Can't wait to see pics! Mine's still sitting, was planning to get it finished over the weekend (I knew better, with the Wife and kids all off and in the house on weekends,LOL),AND today, but I wound up having to run errands. Sigh,at least it's dry enough that I got to drive the GT,LOL!
