Chuck Most Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I hear the coupe is a pain to build- wonder if the Spyder will be a bit more pleasant?
62rebel Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 as a former Audi employee...... build it as they often find themselves..... on a rollback headed to the dealership.
Maindrian Pace Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 as a former Audi employee...... build it as they often find themselves..... on a rollback headed to the dealership. Well, it is a VAG product. -MJS
The Creative Explorer Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I hear the coupe is a pain to build- wonder if the Spyder will be a bit more pleasant? I had no problem with mine, as long as you take the usual preparations.
kelson Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I've seen this kit on Ebay, but i think i'll wait til Modelexpress here in Canada gets them, then i'll buy a few.I've already seen a builtup/review on a German forum 2 months ago and it looked Sweet!.
Chuck Most Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I had no problem with mine, as long as you take the usual preparations. I must have gotten a baddie- EVERYTHING in my kit was warped. Well, the vinyl and clear parts were okay, but the rest was pretty bad. It's still upstaris on a shelf in the box half finished.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I see the model has JUST ARRIVED over at the Model Round Up, and it looks like an absolute gem and great canvas for paint. Does anyone have pictures of this beauty they can share, what comes in the box, that is? Thank you.
niteowl7710 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Got this at my LHS last weekend, currently in contact with Revell to replace the body which had a pretty severe counter-clockwise warp. Left front and right rear were trying to meet each other. Revell said they had not had any other reports like mine, so I hope I just got a "Friday" kit so to speak.
gasman Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I got mine couple weeks ago, the body in my kit is no warped at all. This kit is a completely different tooling from the regular R8 kit that was released 3-4 years ago. that kit had a V8, this ones got the V10.
Guest Sickfish Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 G'day Dr.C... I assume you're talking about this kit.. The SpYder ;-) All the regular stuff in the kit & as already stated, the V10 engine :-) Including undersized wheel/tyre combo'... Tyres rubbish as usual. I won't be using them... Got mine late last year... Here it is in HOK Cinnamon... & I'll be using these Aoshima after-market wheels/tyres... Any questions about the kit just ask mate :-) Cheers Cliffo...
jaydar Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 This kit is definitely too big for the box. Keep it on top of the pile or you will be rewarded with a crushed body. Mine was ok.
niteowl7710 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) My kit also had all of the Spyder specific parts just laying on top of the "shared" (new tool, but some of the parts are the same) parts unwrapped. This isn't the first Revell AG rebox into Revell North America fiasco either. My Ferrari Italia had a warped parts tree that included such needed to be flat parts like the chassis pan and engine/firewall insert. I think I'm just gonna start paying the extra couple of bucks for the "long import box", as these kits clearly don't fit into our boxes without crush and warping issues. Things like the Trabant 601S, SLS AMG and Citroen 2CV Charleston that can only come via the long box have all been packed well, and demage free. Edited February 11, 2012 by niteowl7710
Dr. Cranky Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Cliff, yes, but I think Revell is rereleasing it with new box and art.
martinfan5 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Virgil, I think this is what you are talking about http://www.elmcityhobbies.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_135&products_id=2681
Dr. Cranky Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Bingo, Jonathan, that's it. I had tried to copy it over from the ModelRoundUp site, but they don't allow for their images to be copies. Thanks, yes, that it.
Guest Sickfish Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Cliff, yes, but I think Revell is rereleasing it with new box and art. Same kit though, right? Just a re-box, same as the coupe version ;-) Cliffo
niteowl7710 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Same kit though, right? Just a re-box, same as the coupe version ;-) Cliffo Correct, just mauled and manhandled into one of the boxes we insist on using here in the States. It also costs us a few bucks less for the kit...$21 vs. $26+ for the Revell AG version. Although my LHS has two of the VW Samba "Bus" van kits, and the Revell AG version is $5 LESS than the "North American" version. I think that might have something to do with how long the AG version has been languishing in inventory.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Well, I hope the first person to get it, will do the honors of posting kit content pics, if possible.
Rob Hall Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Well, I hope the first person to get it, will do the honors of posting kit content pics, if possible. See the posting above by Sickfish..that has pictures of the kit contents.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Rob, I know he posted the pictures of what came in the kit with the old box. I'm talking about the new kit when it comes out. If I get my hands on it soon, I will post pictures of it. Just curious to find out what will be different in terms of chrome parts and plastic sprues.
