Wayne Buck Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Thanks for sharing the video. That was a really cool story! ...even brought a little tear to my eye! I still have my first car ('84 Trans Am 5 liter ho/ 5 speed with every option you could get except a rear window defroster). That thing has been through more motor swaps, trans rebuilds (eventually swapped in a th-350) and ring & pinion sets than I can count! LOL She's not exactly the prettiest car on the block right now, but I plan to one day restore it back to the way I had it in high school. It had a "high output" 305 with a 350 horse 327 cam, SLP cat-back, hogged out cat, performer intake and a T-5 with 3:73's in the back... Deep and shiny white paint with Grey interior and Weld Pro-Stars that I got for x-mas after having the car about a year. I've had SEVERAL offers from people wanting to buy it and always turned them down just because it was my first car, and I've heard WAY too many of those "wish I still had my first car" stories!
Junkman Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 My first car is still alive and well - a 1960 Buick Le Sabre Convertible. Its with a collector in Bavaria and regularily makes the car show circuit in southern Germany. I bought it in 1983 and sold it in 1986 to finance my first new car - a 1987 IROC-Z with RPO L98. I would want neither of them back. The car I want back is the first car I ever drove - my father's 1979 Renault 16TX. And next summer I'm going over to France and get me one.
Hypermung Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I KNOW my first car ended up in the scrap yard, which is exactly where it belonged
Keef Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 1974 Mustang II coupe....wouldnt have it back if you paid me the $300 i sold it for
RTK434 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I grew up always hearing stories about people wishing they had their first car back. When I ended up with an 85 Camaro with a 2.8 V6 I never imagined keeping it for long. Now 16 years and many engine and trans combos later it's still sitting in the garage. Not sure if I'll never sell it becuase I love it or I couldn't stand to lose that much money. LOL
Greg Pugh Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Funny thing is, for my dad, the one that got away was a '65 Impala just like the commercial. It was just a standard Impala 2 door hardtop, not a Super Sport. It was red with black interior, had a 327 with a 4-speed and he and his best friend rebuilt the engine on their knees in the garage. From the stories I've heard from him and his friend (who he's still friends with to this day, and this was back in about '69-'70), it was quite the terror on the street. It upset several cars it shouldn't have (GTO's, Super Sport Chevelles, etc) and he would do anything to get it back. I would do anything to find it for him!
Joe Handley Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 That's how it is with my Dad's first two cars too I'd love for him to have them back (even more that the six pack Charger he and mom had), but those two Plymouths were in even worse shape than my Lebaron was in at they time they were all scrapped.
Joe Handley Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Wish I could.......but that would require two 4 eye Daytona turbo kits and maybe a 4 eye Mustang kit or two........and loys of fabbing that is beyond my skill level.
Nova-ss Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 My first car is a 1974 Chevrolet Nova SS.I love it.when I bought it,it had part of a 350 engine a broke windshield and a smashed up right side door.it had sat from years.when I started taking it apart a bees nest was in the trans...I still don't know how that happened.I bought a running 400 4 bolt main and did some rebuilding to it.I rebuilt the trans and put a full manual pack in it and parts from B&M and A1.I put a 4 thousand stall torgue converter in it.the normal stuff Crager SS rims protract tires, traction bars from Lakewood.I spent alot of money and time on it.then I rebiult it again this time with the same SB 400 bored out to 407 CID 12 to 1 comp and all the goodies.it is fast.there is more but to much to talk about,I've said more then I should now.great stories.thanks,Chris
martinfan5 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) In no way do I want my first car back, it was a mid 60's mercury I think, It was in 1998 that i got it, and it was a pile dog stuff, if any one has heard Adam Sandlers song POS car, that was my car. The front frame was cracked, the brakes really didnt work, I had to use a zippo at night to see how fast I was going , the steering wheel had more play then a record did( wasnt my first choice of word to use ). My second car I would not mind getting back, it was a 84 olds cutlass, I had fun with that car, I remember the night I was able to get on the wire hub caps to come off. It was for the most part a good car. The day I got rid of it was when I was out looking at cars with a buddy, and the moment I pulled into the dealership's lot, up in smoke it went I wouldnt want my third car back either, I traded the up in smoke olds for a used ford tempo, it was the last year it was made, anyways things were good for the first two weeks, .I rear ended a pick up on the freeway, so i busted the front grill, and the left front headlight brackets . I used clear packing tap to secure the left front turn signal housing to headlamp housing, the headlight housing was then attached to the car using duck tape and rope. To aim the headlight I once again used clear packing tape over the headlight on the the hood. The hood latch was busted as well, but did not know tell a week or so later while driving and hood flies up and I could no longer see, after that the hood never would close very good. Well it keeps going down hill, one day while on the freeway, left front tire blows and takes the fender with it, so I went to a pull a part yard and got a fender close in color to my car. Well one night while at work ( worked security) had a friend with me, and I had to patrol two small strip malls, in back we would see how fast we could get shopping carts going(45mph) head on into a block wall. Well one of them bounce off the wall and into the right rear door , busting the door handle clean off. And then the car was broken into one night so I had no drivers side window, and at the same time when the car was driven faster then 55/60 MPH the fuel system would go out, so I would have to bring the car to stop and the shut it down before I could continue on my way. And then a few weeks after that it got repossessed, I happily gave up the keys. Sorry for that being so long Edited November 14, 2011 by martinfan5
