Lownslow Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 how not to sell cars all in all id say fiat is doomed if they dont bring in something that isnt a niche car i checked one out last night its nice but not much room for a hobby show haul how to sell cars http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cpi2IAec9Ho how to sell cars http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cpi2IAec9Ho
Joe Handley Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Sounds like most of there stuff we'll initially be seeing will have a Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep nameplate on it. Not sure if they will be bringing other stuff under their name or under the Alfa and Lancia nameplates too. I have read that they are thinking about bringing the Cherokee name back......as a friggen crossover! Somebody on another forum refered that as the Cherokee getting it's very own Mustang II
Draggon Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 When I saw that J-Lo ad all that kept crossing my mind was "yea, right, like she would own one" . I like the Abarth tho! The car, I mean
Joe Handley Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 You never know Glenn, it is a "cute little car" and that can count for quite a bit with some buyers, no matter what their age, income bracket (it is surprisingly cheap), ect. I sat in one at The Chicago Auto Show and it was nearly as roomy as the PT Cruiser, just sitting in it, felt much more substantial and roomy than the Smart cars they had there.
Craig Irwin Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I hope Fiat's quality and dependability have improved in the last 35 years. I worked at a Fiat dealership in the mid 70's and those things wouldn't run long enough to unload them from the transports.
Rob Hall Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The 500 seems like a decent competitor to the Mini...I've seen a few around...way to small for me, but interesting nonetheless.
Chuck Most Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Well, Fiat is already selling a rebadged Dodge Journey in Europe, so I suppose anything is possible.

I have read that they are thinking about bringing the Cherokee name back......as a friggen crossover! Somebody on another forum refered that as the Cherokee getting it's very own Mustang II What I've read is that the next generation versions of Chrysler's compact (Caliber), subcompact (new entry possibly named the Hornet), and midsize models (Avenger, 200) will be based on Fiat/Alfa platforms but with unique-to-Chrysler bodies and interiors...the Caliber replacement is based on the Alfa Guiletta, for example, but will be wider and longer. Jeep will be getting a small Fiat based CUV to replace the Patriot and Compass....
Draggon Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Yea, Joe, I have to sheepishly admit that buying one crossed my mind in a huge way. Add the Abarth factor....I love the whine of that motor. Im not a rich man, but it wouldnt hurt my budget all that much. I think I can go without food for six months.....I wonder if the Abarth is really an Abarth, or if Fiat is counting on the name. I am still stuck on "fix it again tony" I bought a Pinto in 71 rather that a Fiat 124. I guess Im pretty screwed as far as my ability to make good choices. Must be why Ive had a couple of wives.............
Dragline Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I actually had a go-cart that was larger. Scary........... Bob
Erik Smith Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I really like the new 500. The 500c with the opening top is cool. We looked at one but there is seating for only four, so a family of five is out. The Abarth is cool - and commercial is great too.
mikemodeler Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 It was in Automotive News recently that Chrysler was shutting down the engine plant for the Fiat 500 models as the vehicles aren't selling- dealers have a 194 day supply on hand! I was in Richmond VA earlier this week and drove past a Fiat dealer and they had at least 60 of those cars in stock, in all colors. It will take $5.00 a gallon gas to get folks serious about one of those cars and even then there are many other cars in that same price range that have more room and are comparable in fuel mileage.
Erik Smith Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Ya, I am pretty sure the Fiat dealer in Tacoma, WA (closest to me) can sustain a pretty good run and still have plenty of stock left - I was actually surprised how many they had. Really, the only thing it has going for it are its looks - and that Italian model commercial. It is small. It doesn't get the best mpg in the class. It is more expensive than other models in its class and it is very hard for people to forget the reliability issues rightfully assigned to old Fiats. The Honda Fit is cheaper, better mpg, and holds more people and cargo. So do many other models in the compact market. Still, J-Lo and Italian models....
Nick F40 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 hahahaha I love the seduction one. She looks ###### good in black with red.....both of them I kinda was pissed when they shown that commercial with J Lo and making it a fashion item ....I always loved Abarth's and regular Fiats, so naturally, when i heard of the new 500 coming out I was excited and especially with the Abarth then. I loved it ever since I saw the Top Gear episode a couple years back. It's also funny when Clarkson doesn't fully love it because it doesn't have the traditional Abarth looney bits It's the only new car I actually only REALLY want. This thing with Fiat now wanting to sell their cars here (since they own Dodge) just makes me chuckle. The rebadged Dodge's crack me up, (also the VW Croutan aka Dodge Caravan lol) They have these boutiques, which I think is a weird way to call them and so far just in rural areas around me but the cool bit is you can take them to any Dodge dealer to get them repaired on.
Greg Myers Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) Interesting how a car that no one ever looked at or took serious is now an icon. Edited November 18, 2011 by Greg Myers

CAL Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I hope Fiat's quality and dependability have improved in the last 35 years. I worked at a Fiat dealership in the mid 70's and those things wouldn't run long enough to unload them from the transports. My dad had a brand new in X/19 off the showroom with FACTORY RUST!
Joe Handley Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Interesting how a car that no one every looked at or took serious is now an icon. It's like the Mini, those are more of a legend in Britan and maybe Europe than here. Our legandary peoples car here is more likely the tri-5 Chevy's than the tiny Euro gas sippers needed for Eurome comming out of WW2.
Joe Handley Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 My dad had a brand new in X/19 off the showroom with FACTORY RUST! Sadly, the same could be said for the Aspen and Volare of the same generation.....
Erik Smith Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 you cant compare new fiats to old ones thats like saying GM always built good cars. the fit is a good pick but not a fun car to drive. I know - it is the perception though. I actually would really consider a Fiat if I didn't need five seats to carry my family. It just looks fun.
Craig Irwin Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I'd consider a Fiat if I didn't need to get where I was going.
Draggon Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I liked the "Abarth looney bits" quite a lot. Especially the deck lid propped open 'cause the engine is too big. Gotta love anything like that. I think that if the new fiat had the engine in the CORRECT place, like, behind the rear wheels, I would be at the dealer right away.
RodneyBad Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Cute lil car but too much $$ for too little. The G/F wanted to go look at one. Back seat has No leg room and not a whole lot up front since I'm 6'3" Bumped my head getting into it. I got a whole lot more for less when I got my 08 Scion XD and more reliable. Not fast but comfortable and I get an avg 33mpg for the way I drive.
FASTBACK340 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Well, Fiat is already selling a rebadged Dodge Journey in Europe, so I suppose anything is possible. Wow.... I just tasted a little vomit in the back of my throat..... Feeble Idiots Attempting Transportation I personally can't wait for the retro Trabant...... I mean, EVERYTHING else is desirable and cute!
