maltsr Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Nice work Jonathan, puts me to shame, this is all I have got done so far on the Alfa Put lots of effort into painting the rear shocks to match the front set, only to realise they will be covered by bodywork . Same goes for the intake trumpets, they get covered by a shroud Also got the body painted in white, not much to show yet, will wait till I get some decals on. Speaking of which, they were yellowed and a test one cracked into a zillion pieces when wet. I have Futured the rest to preserve them, but just in case I ordered a new set from Patto's Place in Australia, should arrive next week.
hotrod59f100 Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 (edited) I have got the ls400 body almost done with paint. I put 2 coats of plastikote primer 2 coats of duplicolor pewter and I'm in the last stages of candy red paint .ill get a pic up in a little wile. Im not completely happy with the out come of the body work I did but after 3 months I wanted this out of my sight so I plan to finish by mid next week. Edited May 19, 2012 by hotrod59f100
martinfan5 Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Paul, your work is a lot better then mine lol, looking forward to seeing more. Shane, it still looks good, but I know what you are saying, I think we all have those builds from time to time
maltsr Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Thanks Jonathan, I'm a bit like the tortoise I agree, yours still looks good Shane. I have posted photos of builds that look great in photos but are full of flaws, so I know what you mean . Nice colour though!

All of my builds have flaws , I just try and hide the flaws in the pics too
martinfan5 Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 And a little more was done Taillights done Did the trim on the window, not happy with it, but it will do Dash broad, the decals were really bad, I got lucky and the gauge decals were still usable, one of them cracked though Taillights installed and its on its wheels
hotrod59f100 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) Thanks guys . I have herd dozens of accounts of how bad candy paints were but I had my heart set on candy red from the start. The paint went smooth but shows a old of the imperfection in the filler areas like the front air dam and side skirts I made. Also Jonathan that color looks nice on there. Is that a pretty simple kit? maltsr Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 That's looking really good Jonathan, on the home stretch now? Small update - this is how the chassis looks right now, pretty soon much of this will be covered up
martinfan5 Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 I took the Lotus to the club meeting to put on the WIP progress, and it was voted number one tonight, I was stoke, and shock, but made me feel good. I am almost done, few more days. The chassis is looking good, I have a bad memory, what kit are doing again?
sports850 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Alright , after having a horrible week for various reasons I've decided to join this build . Late last year I bought two kerbside resin kits of an FJ Holden (Australian only model , 1955 to 1957 I think) , one I built for my former girlfriend now current stalker's brother for christmas . I was wondering what to do with the other one and then came across this photo online of a classic racing FJ and found inspiration from it . I'm building this as it would have been raced in the 1960's so will be basically standard apart from paint . The pieces of the kit laid out , The colour scheme for this build was inspired by the above photo . The white/yellow stripes aren't even in this photo , I know , it's a works in process and is my first effort at painting lines like this . Lines corrected a bit but still more to do once I get some proper masking tape (using 1 1/2" wide house painting tape at present .....) , green paint is also rubbed back in places to correct problems before final coat when I have the aforementioned proper masking tape .... Side on to show the shape of the FJ , again , green paint has been rubbed back in places .
maltsr Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 It's the Martini Alfa Romeo 155 by Tamiya - it might look like this when it's done
maltsr Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Welcome aboard Ian, that's going to be cool when finished
martinfan5 Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) Welcome Ian, glad to have you here mate, that is a cool resin kit, I like seeing builds like the one you are doing. Paul, I am pretty sure its going to look the pic, your work is very good. I still get all the class's confused, what touring car group did that race in?. Edit- just looked it up, DTM Edited May 20, 2012 by martinfan5
maltsr Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Thanks Jonathan, as I said earlier, you don't see it all in the pics, I only show the good side LOL. Made good progress tonight, did a lot of the interior, the fuel tank covers the rear suspension and there's a lot of structural bodywork around the engine now . It's going together really well so far, hope that hasn't jinxed it!!
martinfan5 Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 That is one nice looking chassis there, great job, I cant see any flaws.
martinfan5 Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) I am 99% done with the interior, I just need touch up a small area on the dash, but its done, and the chassis is done as well, wheels painted, and put the nismo decal on them. And got the body back in white paint, going to let it cure for a few days, and then try getting the red down again, Edited May 21, 2012 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks , and I know I am not supposed to see the flaws , just pointing that your work is really good, thats all
martinfan5 Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 Your welcome, stay as long as you want lol Well the Lotus is finished up, I decided to not do any engine wiring at the moment, I will go back to it later and do it The rest of the pics are in under glass
maltsr Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Nice job Jonathan, looks great but a little Spartan, I guess the real cars are like that.
martinfan5 Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Here is another one I am starting on, Its Aoshima Mitsubishi Evo X Ralli Art kit, I have been wanting to get this kit for awhile, and I went with this version of the kit because I like the wheels that come with this one. My plan for the color will be blue.
