Dave42 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Cool idea for a build here, and nice looking work so far. I don't know enough to really comment on which way to go. Sure looks like it will be impressive either way. Are the wheels from the "Woody" kit? Nice choice. Edited December 12, 2011 by Dave42
Greg Pugh Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 No, they're from the "California Wheels" version of Revell's '67 Chevelle SS396.
Greg Pugh Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 Things are about to get a little crazy...
misterNNL Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 THis could ne very intresting to follow if you can maintain that stance.I built one of these when the kit kit first released.Mine has a mid engine mounted tunnel ram 454 Chevy.
Greg Pugh Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 The stance I'm not worried about. The rest of it however....
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Very interesting. Looking forward to seeing where all those parts end up...
Greg Pugh Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 I dismembered.....err, I mean....disassembled the die cast this afternoon. I know it might seem crazy to sacrifice a whole die cast car for the couple of parts I wanted from it but, rest assured that I will be using a good majority of the rest of the parts for another project I've got in the back of my mind.
Greg Pugh Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) So, one of the major complaints about this kit is the headlights and taillights. There are other problems with the kit and we'll get to those later but tonight I wanted to address the headlight and taillight issue. The problem with the headlights is that they don't offer any headlight bezels. The headlights are frenched into the fenders and the headlight opening is actually way too far forward. The headlights with bezel were too large in diameter for the headlight opening on the fender but again, that's because it really is only large enough to accept a headlight lens. However, by cutting back the opening to a stock location, the fender graciously accepts the headlight and bezel from the diecast car. There is still a lot of finishing work to do. The headlights are only sitting in place but you can get the idea. Edited November 7, 2015 by gpugh1976
Greg Pugh Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) Moving onto the rear, it's the same story as the front. The kit-supplied taillights lack a chrome bezel and they're frenched in also. Much less work was required here to use the taillights from the diecast car but again, they were basically secured with a touch of Elmer's glue just for viewing. I will have to do a bit of work back here but not much. Edited November 7, 2015 by gpugh1976
Modlbldr Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Definite improvements to the head and tail lights. Good to see you are back on this one.Later-
XJ6 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 All the Work and Modifications is looking Great ??
wayne swayze Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 The headlights/taillights you're using now are a VAST improvement! That's a difficult kit IMO, so I'm interested in seeing your solutions.
Cpt Tuttle Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Yeah, it is really looking better than when built up with the kit parts!
Greg Pugh Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Thanks so much guys! Thanks for checking it out!
Greg Pugh Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 So the most-complained about issue with this kit is undoubtedly the windshield opening. I could try to explain it but I think a picture speaks a thousand words here so I'll save myself the trouble and let the picture do the talking. But, in a nutshell, Revell didn't get anything right when it came to the windshield on the Delivery. Not only is the opening bad, the cut outs for the "hood hinges" is something straight out of a horror novel too. They are cut out up into the lower windshield moulding!
Greg Pugh Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 So thank you Revell for getting it right on the Olds! Now, it's surgery time...
Greg Pugh Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 This is just sitting here and is not glued in place. So, I'm sure I'll get it nestled down a little better when I permanently attach it. Now, sure I've got some work to do but overall, I'm VERY happy with how well this piece fits!
wayne swayze Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Outstanding and very bold body mods , but I'm sure this will look great!
maltsr Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The new window frame and other mods look great Greg. I'm sure you're inspired to see this one through now
