It sounds like they are combining the best of both worlds. The car shown is the same one found in the double kit from many years back. It is based on the Revell rear engine dragster kits. The Christmas tree and extra crew members came in the Monogram version of their rear engine dragsters and the paint scheme was the red Carefree Gum sponsored car. If I recall the Xmas tree was a pretty good piece and will make this one all that much nicer to have.

That's awesome!

I was starting to wonder what happened to this kit.

After the initial press release earlier this year, there wasn't much else mentioned.

Checked the R-M website a couple weeks ago and couldn't find anything there about it.

Definately getting a few!

SWEEEEET!!

Thanks for sharing the good GREAT news, Bob!

I'll certainly be picking up more than one of these. B)

I wonder what else they plan on re releasing hopefully some 1/16th stuff too

My thoughts exactly! I've been DYING for a chance at another 1/16th Funny Car kit (at a decent price, hopefully). I built one when I was like 7 or 8 and it was a major "blue metallic plastic and white bodied glue bomb".

I wish I had the entire kit still, as I would try to restore it, but it's been through several moves, in storage for over 2 decades and is pretty banged up to say the least...also missing more than 3/4 of the parts. :(

I just hope their quality control is good. They really have done either a great job or a ###### with this mold. I have yet to see the re-issued Jeb Allen kit that was build able. The frame rails were plastic pretzels. I have other releases and they were perfect.

Never thought that word (non cuss word) that I've heard preachers use from the pulpit would be #######ed out. If you're wondering what word, it sounds like a type of fish.......

I try not to use those others.

Very cool! I must get at least one of these, even just because of that christmas tree. Dragster is also really great, so this is must have kit. B)

I don't think this is the Revell rear engine Mongoose(English leather) with added parts. From the discription: Care free gum, plug wires, driver figure, track official, christmas tree and being in 1/24 , I think it is the old Monogram Kit. My bad. Just noticed OP stated it was the Old Monogram kit. If the new decals aren't the same as the originals, LMK, I can offer scans of both Snake and Mongoose versions..

The picture on Revell's site indicates the Revell rear engine kit. The description with the extras listed indicates the old Monogram rear engine kit. I guess we will all simply have to wait to see what it is they release. Either way it's good news.

Look carefully Wayne. This is the ORIGINAL Snake RE Dragster. This is the kit with the supplied fuel and ignition wires.

This is the ONE we all wanted.

Read carefully, this is not the standard stuff but Monogram moldings of the early 70's car. Look at the solid front wheels too.

I don't know how much harder I have to look. To the best of my knowledge Monogram put out two rear engine kits that were replicas of real cars. One was the yellow Prudhomme Carefree car and an all red Mcewen Carefree kit. These kits came with the xmas tree and the extra crew figures. If they came with wiring I'm not sure as I never had either of them. If they made any others then I am not aware of those and I would love to see some box art.

As for the picture shown I am seeing a multi color, Go Navy, English Leather Mcewen car that was a single kit as well as in the double kit. That was a Revell rear engine kit. And some of the Revell kits came with wire front wheels and some came with solid front wheels. Plus, if this were a reissue of an old Monogram kit then why wouldn't Revell market it under that name like some other vintage reissues that they've done in recent years?

Now, if any of my information is incorrect then someone please elaborate on what I should be seeing. But, as I said before, either way we are going to get something good.

This is the old Monogram kit from the 1970's with the Xmas tree and figures and the vinyl plug wires, the decals are new as this was 1/24th scale and not the old Revell 1/25th scale Mongoose kit that was reissued years back. I due a lot of work for Tom McEwen and he is a close friend I supplied the the Box photo for the kit to Ed Sexton at Tom's request.

Guess that settles it. At any rate, it's nice to have this one back, especially for the Christmas tree...and just in time for Christmas, too. :D

I'll definitely get it for the extra goodies in it, although I normally don't build his kind of vehicle, I think it would be fun.

Virgil.... I think it would be awesome to see you do a weathered job on dragster lets say that has been sitting on in or outside a barn for years. Love your weathered builds.

I'm wondering what kind of rear slicks will be in this kit, as the originals were widened and changed from Bluestreak Drag way specials to eagles on the sidewall for the 80's to 90's Revell funny car kits

It appears that, what they are doing is re-releasing the ex Monogram kit with new decals to "match" the recent funny car release. I'm sure licensing has a lot to do with their choice of decals on this version. I have two of each of the originals so if you would like to see anything in the kit, let me know and I'll post some pics. Both the Snake and the Mongoose kits are exactly the same except for the box art, instruction sheets and decals. The dragsters are very detailed and feature vinyl spark plug wires and injector lines. The tires are single piece vinyl in the front and two piece Goodyear Blue Streak slicks in the rear. (3/4 of a tire with a sidewall plug) Only one set of wheels, chrome plated Centerlines all the way around. The Christmas tree is a nice detailed piece with Chrondek Timers decals (in the original anyway) There's a driver in a fire suit made to be sitting in the seat and a "crew member" that is standing with his hands over his ears as if the dragster were doing a burnout right next to him. These are my most favorite drag kits, not counting the Aurora stuff. and I'm pretty happy that they are reissuing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
