Joe Handley Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Just noticed something interesting while watching an A-Team re-run and they were being chased in the van (what else is new, I know), and I noticed that the van used for the chase looked like it had those Addco "coil over" shocks.
Lunajammer Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Interesting. How could anybody worth their salt in graphics miss something like that? My guess is that they know about it by now and probably offer a corrected sheet if you ask for it, especially when the box art specifically boasts of the decal graphics.
Joe Handley Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 That could have been more of a print setter error or something along those lines.
Eshaver Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Got a phone call from my hobby dealer telling me that the Chevrolet vans had arived via U P S . I haven't picked up my van as yet as my expense check is delayed yet again for the month . Soon as I get some money, Ill go check it out an see ........... Meanwhile , I'm going to be doing mine as the van I used in Houston to deliver products with , Yeah "Cheap magnetic signs" that said Art- Forms design 7676 North Freeway #603-5. . Well, thats what my van had . Ed Shaver
Chuck Most Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I have thought about that too Chuck......think the AMT Camaro Concept Car would make a good parts donor? Ugh... about all that's any good from that kit is the rolling stock. I'm thinking of using some of the spare parts from the AMT '34 Ford kit engine (I'm assuming this kit has a 350), with some Minilite wheels I already have laying around.
Lownslow Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) got mine going the 80s route doing graffiti on the sides Edited January 30, 2012 by Lownslow
Chuck Most Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 The A-team reissue (most recent one) had some pretty shallow panel lines, but I don't recall there being any issues with the drip rails fading in and out.
Bluzboy66 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 after seeing how rough the body looks i've decided to pass on this one. where did the rain gutters go? some places they are sorta there and other places, nowhere to be seen. i don't remember the A-team issue kit being this bad. does that kit have the same body issues as this one? Dave, Don't be afraid to give this one a chance. It's not bad at all. You can't really tell by pics......you need to see it in person. I was releived to see that it was fairly authentic to the original kit from back in the day. Mike
Joe Handley Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I honestly think they should have fixed the drip rails instead of removing those roof ribs, the tooling could use more of a clean up and resto.
Chuck Most Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah, this kit is typical AMT of the era- for better and for worse. I'm kicking around the idea of cutting it down to a shorter wheelbase. I know the Revell kit is short wheelbase, and it's coming back out, but that's just as typical of its era engineering-wise as this kit, and something about the Revell body just looks weird to me.
Casey Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 not sure what's with the plating in kits lately, and Round2 seems to be getting worse about it IMO. Perhaps they are experimenting with this kit's chrome? http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/1488-round-2-models-shine-on/
Chuck Most Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah- thick AND it doesn't like to be stripped. The last few Round2 chrome sprues I've stripped really like to hang onto their clear coating. The mid '90's stuff would practically fall off if you so much as rubbed on it with your fingers too hard- this stuff, not so much.
Chuck Most Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Thing is, I don't have the same issues with the chrome sprues in Lindberg or Revell kits. Moebius appears to use a clear coat under the chrome plating as Round 2 does, but the chrome comes off pretty quickly. The enamel coat underneath takes a bit longer, but in some cases it's so thin you can get away with just spraying a thin coat of primer over it.
1972coronet Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I'd be willing to bet that the *issues* with the chrome plating are due to : 1.) Environmental Standards ( and , yes , I'm factoring China in here ) 2.) Shipping Durability 3.) Storage Durability I've recently bought the 1962 Catalina SD , "Class Action" Monte Carlo , Buick 225 , and 1960 Starliner kits , and the plating looks very nice in each one of 'em . Not certain if any stripping will be necessary as of yet ...
gray07 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) This is an A-Team van i built when they first came out, I was going to refurbish it but i have a sealed original issue kit in my stash. But you can see there are some similarities but not everything. Edited January 30, 2012 by gray07
Dr. Cranky Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm sure looking at this model really takes you back!
cargostar Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Has anyone noticed that the emblems are for a 30 series? Isn't a 30 series a 3/4 ton??
Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Has anyone noticed that the emblems are for a 30 series? Isn't a 30 series a 3/4 ton?? One ton, actually. But it has the five bolt wheels if I recall correctly.
Eshaver Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Chuck, uh so was a G-20 a 5/8th ton or Heavy duty axle . The G-10's were the light duty vans . Ed Shaver
Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Correct, but NO G30 ever came with five-bolt hubs.
Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 You could sidestep any wheelbase/ lug nut issues by doing something like this... Wait, THIS one has SIX lugs...
62rebel Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 that is AWESOME in it's sebbentiness. shades of shortened '57 Chebby wagons.... and, you could use the section cut out, to lengthen ANOTHER van!
cargostar Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Thats what I thought! I figured a 30 series van should have had 8 lug wheels.
Chuck Most Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I guess that's not so weird.. the Monogram F-250 always had five bolt wheels, and the most recent versions of the AMT '79 F-350 had no lug nuts on the wheels at all.
Joe Handley Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) Am I seeing things, or does that cut down van have a '69 1/2 Six Pack Super Bee/Road Runner hood scoop on the roof? Think that may have started out as a 125" wb van too. Edited February 2, 2012 by Joe Handley
