Steven , You spray the base coat first, after it is dry, Mist the body with water, then sprinkle on the salt. Paint over the salt and when dry brush the salt away. I can`t get the Hair spray method to work for me. Salting is not to bad, just play around with it , you will like it. But , No Body does it better than the Madd Doctor Cranky and his assitant Eyegore.

Thanks, Ron, you got it right. Basecoat, water, salt, dry, and THEN the top coat! Should work for you, Steven.

Best, DC.

There will be more progress tomorrow.

allright guys

i finally managed to get some paint on galloper today

this is how she sat when the outbreak first spread (shes allready sporting the hood we picked up later when we found the blower engine in the burned out car)

1328751635.jpg

now its just a matter of waiting for the paint to dry and then i can start modding her like we would in real life

you can allready see the propane tanks in the trunk...i will make some sort off spoiler type deal that runs down like the side of a charger rear window so i can cover them up and keep the TZs from gumming through the lines

glad to hear that Doc

i figured this was the most authentic way to build it

i allready have the cowling build out of styrene sheet that will go on the back to make the new liftgate (for lack of a better word) onto

now it is time to start weathering (not my strongpoint)

oh, and i still need more guns (in the mail) and cowbell ;)

This has me intrigued, Mark. Can you show a picture of the products you are using in this 2-part system. Near as I can tell it's some sort of metal paint you applied and then expose to water and probably some other chemical(s) to create real rust very quickly, but I'm curious what exactly you are using. I'm assuming it will need some sort of flat clear coat to seal it when it's dry so you don't get rust-dust all over everything and have it rubbed off.

Mark, I agree with Ryan, we need to see more. Right now it looks like a magic trick, a bunny about to come out of the hat. Show us more, please.

Hey, Jason, great to see you over here, buddy. WELCOME TO THE TZH SQUAD. And it looks like you're off to a great build. Wow, thanks for the pictures, I will copy them for the next TZH WIP build update.

Hope you look around the forum and check out all the amazing eye candy going on here.

Cheers, DC.

Alright so this is the product I got at one of the hobby/craft places.

1c86a0e0.jpg

It comes as a kit.

Basically the first part is an iron solution. Shake it extremely well and pour into a container. I did a couple things with the model. First, I got the Dremel out and buzzed the inside of the fenders until it started poking holes through to get the rust holes. I then dotted super glue to get the visual of surface rust bubbling up. Once the body was where I wanted it, I brushed the entire car with the iron stuff. Apparently it has real iron particles in it.

The second part is the rust stuff. It looks like window cleaner and the consistency of water. I put it in a squirt bottle set to fine mist and generously coated both inside and outside of the body. The part of me putting it in the plastic bag is so the stuff would condensate and not evaporate. I am not keeping it under a heat lamp so it will keep the moisture in the bag and help with the oxidation process.

To say the least I can't wait to see the end result after a full 24 hours! And this is before the application of other rusting treatments!

I have rust paint, mig pigments light and medium rust, tamiya rust powder, and I might even do an oil based wash to bring out some texture. I can't wait.

Oh, and to answer that last question, I plan on dull coating afterwards just in case.

Which ones? I found 1/64th size.

Thanks,

Tim

Ok picked up a Monster Jam. Here's a comparison between the 1/25 scale low profiles that came with my hummer model and the monster jam wheels which are on some versions are conveniently detachable (look for Bad New Travels Fast 27/80)

Here's my final build pics for this thing.

Name (for lack of anything more imaginative) : Zombie car.

The story behind this thing is that some poor guy got shot in the head and his body was stuffed in the trunk of a convenient wreck. His zombified remains have grown through into the cabin, and pretty much through the rest of the car, becoming one with it. As such the car has become the zombie, and he ain't happy! Modifications have been made as opportunity arose, him ripping parts from other cars, and upgrading himself, and so on.

There is no radiator. There was no radiator in my concept sketch either. I wanted a nice big maw at the front.

Interior shot, or use the interior shot from when the interior wasn't in the car, if you want to see more of the details. This shot shows the lining hanging from the roof, while the other doesn't.

And yup, that's the driver in there!

The little "travel wheels"? Real life monster trucks looks so inadequate when they are on their travel wheels! It looks like you won't have any trouble fitting them to your build.

Mark, like you, I am dying to find out how the results turn out. I know you will post a picture. I have that rusting system, but I've never used it on a model because it has always looked a bit too thick, and I would not spray it through the airbrush.

Keep us posted.
