imatt88 Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Hey all, I just saw a 1/25th scale Lindberg Challenger on eBay.. I have never seen this kit before Is it any good? From the boxtop photo, it looks pretty basic to me.. Just wondering if its worth picking up Cheers, Ian
slantasaurus Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Basic is being kind to it. It was originally a Palmer tooling and if you know anything about Palmer, thats all you need to know. The body is ok, although the Shaker hood scoop is all wrong. I bought one hoping to use a AMT Challenger to kitbash the rest.....never have bothered doing anything with it though.
Edsel-Dan Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 It is also an old Pyro tooling, but is more in line with what MPC was doing for 70's Annuals than what Pyro/Premier is mostly known for. i want one, but have not gotten lucky enough yet
Joe Handley Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 DOes that mean it might be worth getting then Dan?
ChrisPflug Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Originally was a Palmer '71Challenger that oddly enough, was more a knock off of the MPC than a typical Palmer kit The "update" to later model was poorly done and the stock hood was replaced The overall shape isn't too bad- grille, taillights and fender louvers are very wrong. The interior is a lot like the MPC- has the non rallye A/C dash Probably could be best built backdating to the '71- there is a twin scoop rallye hood available in resin Edited January 13, 2012 by ChrisPflug
440 Dakota Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 agree with Slant I had the previous edition from the 90s yellow on box and never made time to do anything with it and let it go
Chuck Most Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Palmer did another Challenger, too- it had a multipiece body and was motorized. "Big Drag" or some name like that. Like it's been said- the body is okay in this kit- I've got one somewhere on an AMT Yankee Challenge floorpan. That would be the best way to really make something of this kit- the chassis it comes with is too narrow, and lacks detail.
Edsel-Dan Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 recent issues of AMT's 70 come with the Twin-snorkle hood too! It was originally in the Dixie-Challenger version with the center cut out for the blower. They made it Stock now. No Shaker Scoop though. I have enough of the older kits With that though
ChrisPflug Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 The new Revell 1/25 Challenger is pretty horrible as well- it's not just a case of older kits The original MPC annuals are sweet however.....
Edsel-Dan Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 For all my early 70's MPC annuals, I never had a Challenger!! Wish I could get a 71!! Or at least the parts to convert one of the AMT combination convertible/hardtops into one!!
Bastardo Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I have the kit in my stash and looking at the parts it's obvious it's an older tooling. The parts are kinda ok, but I've seen (much) better Overall it's worth getting and putting together for two reasons: - It's a legendary car - It's a simple kit you can finish (OOB-style) within a few days and she'll probably make your display cabinet look sexier

Deathgoblin Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Yeah, got one of these at Ollie's. I think I'm gonna keep the body and chuck the rest. The body looks to be decent, but the chassis and engine are CHEAP!
Chuck Most Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 "Big Drag" could pretty much sum up any Palmer based kit. First time I saw a photo of the Big Drag Challenger kit, first thing I thought was 'how fitting'...
deathskull59 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 seems like the challenger body is ok but the rest of it goes in the trash. dang talk about a really really bad kit. so i guess its not really worth buying it at all huh?
