crazyjim Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I was burned in a trade and sent the bad trader's name out to forum members and I was severly chastised for mentioning the bad traders name. Why? I mailed my part of the trade quickly but never received anything from him. That's probably 2 years ago and I have the name somewhere. PMs and emails were sent with no reply. Ken even tried to contact the guy to no avail.
Bartster Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 That's a good point, Jim. Wrong people getting reprimanded! I've never had a bad trade thru here, but if/when I do, I'll prolly wanna tell somebody! Why is that wrong?
Bartster Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 If someone rips you off, they're bashing you in secret! Just sayin'.
imatt88 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I'm a member of other forums that require a Good Trader/Bad Trader list, just because of rip-off artists and scams. As far as I can tell, the Bad Trader list is not meant to slam anyone, its just a FYI warning list..
crazyjim Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I send kits as my end of the trade and get nothing in return. Isn't that stealing?
Bartster Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 That's it! If I get ripped off ONE time, I'll make sure everybody knows who did it, & I really don't see anything wrong with that. Maybe you won't lose your precious 'whatever it is' on your next trade!
george 53 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Ok THIS may NOT comply with the TRADEING aspect of this thread, BUT sometimes when guys just ASK for stuff, I tend to send things because A. I have it., B. caz I KNOW I'll NEVER use it, and if they ask what I want/need for trade, I tell them nothing, just do ANOTHER modeler a favor when you can. I just gave away a hood, and a flip front end. I cost me 10 bucks(almost, 9.58) to GIVE stuff away. I'm retired and on a pension, and I can NO LONGER just give stuff away. So if you DO ask for something, at least OFFER to pay for shipping ,at least. It you need it, and you can afford it, OFFER to pay the shipping charges on whatever you want.I would NEVER ask for a repay, caz to ME, that's part of helping. But I just can't afford it anymore. I'm sure there are other here who WANT to help, but we just can't pay to GIVE stuff away. Hope I didn't ruffle any feathers, but, fair is fair, and some of us just can't AFFORD to give stuff away, even though we WANT to help. 5 bucks may NOT be alot to some, but it adds up. Believe it or not.
Guest Johnny Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Having a trade moderator with no real power to do anything is just setting that volunteer up for abuse. But how does one really decide which side is telling the truth? All he has is pretty much one guys word against the other in most cases. Ken helped in some here with a former member that had ripped off multiple others. That is about the olny way a trade mod would be able to figure out who isin the wrong. In my case after he got the guy to finally send the stuff out what he sent was total junk. I was able to show what I sent and what he sent to me by keeping pictures of the items sent in PM's sent to the other guy and then to show what he sent me. One might also have the infor on the shipping like confimation and such as record. But even that can be scetchy. I think the trader list like we have now and paying attention to trades and who is trading who is the best way. I have looked through the trade section and contacted others that traded with someone I was not familiar with to see how their trades went. I have only had the one bad trade in all I have done here. Now I have had a few that dropped out in the middle of a trade deal only to see them make a trade with someone else that came into it after. (bad business and I would never concider a deal with that person again) i have also had them not send pictures promised and gave up on the deal myself! Bottom line just like any where else you might deal. Take time to research and only trade when you fel comfortable.
mikemodeler Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 The few trades I have done over the years have usually been small stuff with the occasional kit here and there. I don't always have the time to package something up and run to the PO to get it off so I tend to not trade nearly as much as I would like. That being said, I am reminded of an old saying about loaning money- never give anymore than you can afford to lose. I have loaned money to family members before only to get "You mean you were serious about paying you back???" comments. I have had the same hold true for trading things "You really expect me to pack up and ship those wheels? C'mon, it will cost more to do that than it is worth!" George's comments about offering to pay some/all of the shipping charges should be understood by all traders. If I am sending you a kit and have to pay the PO $5-10 and you are sending me some wheels that cost $2 to ship, a couple of $$ will go a long way towards another trade. I am not yet retired like George but considering how few raises I have had in the last 5 years, I feel like I am on a fixed income!
route66modeler Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Hi Bartser. you and I are cool. No problems. Steve
Eshaver Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Once again, I have had great relations with most here at M C M . Like George , I'm officially on a fixed in come . Hey, Ive sent products out at my own expense and never even been given even a thanks by a coupe . The part that really rips me though is the Mis representation of parts / kits by one party and the other party being ripped off as a result . Look, be honest , it has a way of comming back ! Ed Shaver
Kaleb Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I haven't had any bad trades on here. I do have a list of people that have sent me stuff that I will send parts to if I have them. I do wish that someone would take the mod job so we could have the list back up and running. I would take the job, but I found out I don't get a free kit or a mag subscription for it. Lol
crazyjim Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Harry says it's a pretty thankless position.
57peppershaker Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) Everybody I have traded with, have been great. Thank you all. Simple, treat others how you want to be treated yourself. Edited January 15, 2012 by 57peppershaker
crazyjim Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I will take it, mod job That was too easy, Jonathan. I just sent a PM to Harry informing of my plan(s) and asked for his consideration. What are your plans?
martinfan5 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 If you want to take it on , go for it, I am sure I wouldnt get picked to do it anyways, the only thing is being the go between guy, talking to both sides, trying to work something out. I am not going to into details in this thread. I hope I did not offened you by saying I was interested in doing it.
Evil Appetite Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Never had any trouble with the guys here other than one "evil" person. I even had one member ask me if I wanted some parts ( for free! ) that i had only expressed an interest in and hadn't actually asked for! Just so you ppl know..the 'evil' one, was NOT me
disabled modeler Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Trade deals need good communication...I have had many trade deals here and very few with any problems. I have been stung before but there are a lot of good honest people here that do everything they can to make things fair for the others...I know I do. Being on a VERY limited budget myself I trade a lot to get what I need or want....looking or asking others that have traded with one person is a good idea if the possible trader is new to you and may help with any questions about someone you may deal with most are willing to help if they can. I have sent parts, etc. out to help for free never expecting anything in return but just to help....is that not what we all are here for?
Evil Appetite Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) Harry says it's a pretty thankless position. Mod positions usually are. Most will question your actions, and everyone thinks they can do it better. Back on topic though, I have a few hundred kits I know I wont build. i wouldnt mind a Good/Bad list myself..It would be convenient. Edited January 16, 2012 by Evil Appetite
Draggon Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Theres a place out there, I think its called "the model pigs" that is for reviewing your traders. If you have very important or valuable trade, might want to ck it out.
