Casey Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Looking good so far, Mike. Do you just touch up the rear edge of the hood at some later point? I like where Revell placed the copyright info on this kit- on flat areas, right at the edge, making for easy removal. Sure beats when they put it above the rearend on the floorboard.
mrmike Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Thanks Darrick, Casey and Chris! It is unfortunate that Revell put the copyright on both sides of the chassis. I think it would be better if they put it on the inside of the chassis or print it in ink to make it easier to remove. I finished the interior and chassis last night. Have a look... I can now turn my attention back towards the hood and body and get those finished. Then I can start assembly of the major componants. More to come... Edited March 4, 2012 by mrmike
Chris guthro Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 what did you use to paint the interior? the gloss is almost perfect representation of leather! i would also like to know what u used to paint your exhaust
mrmike Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Chris, I use Tamiya TS-29 Semi-Gloss Black for the interior. For the exhaust, I used Model Master Aluminium on the muffler and Steel Metalizer on the pipes.
CorvairJim Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 She's lookin' GOOD! These Novas look good in green, and you picked a great shade.
mrmike Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Thanks guys! This shade of green really appeals to me, so that's what I went with!
mrmike Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 After leaving the hood in the purple pond for a week and a half, I cleaned off the hood and then after this picture taken, I gave it a light sanding to remove the extra left behind paint. I got the wheels and tires mounted. The chassis is now up on four wheels! More to come...
geemoney Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 i was let down by the wheel openings, shape, scale etc, dont get me wrong i have two of them! of course the amt version was plagued with fitment issues as well (individual fenders etc.) i had hoped for better from revell-mono, you know? nice work, michael
mrmike Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Everyone I know has raved about this kit. Well, I guess you can't please everyone. A quick cleanup of the body and hood this morning and it was back into the paintbooth for another coat of paint! I'll let these gas out and then start the foiling stage. Fortunately, not much foiling is required. More to come...
charlie8575 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Nice job on this, Mike. I like that green on it. Charlie Larkin
mrmike Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Thanks Charlie! It's a really great shade of green. I jumped onto polishing the Nova today. In the back of my mind, I want to finish the Nova with the hopes of maybe taking the finished model to the MASSCAR show this Sunday in Taunton, Mass. I still have much to do on it. I started with a soft cloth, a bottle of Meguirs Scratch X 2.0, and my last bottle of Sam Adams Winter Lager. Spring is just around the corner, you know. I'm not sure if I am going to clearcoat the paint as the finish looks quite good to my eye. Next up, BMF! More to come...
mrmike Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 I told you it was going to be shiny! Thanks Jim!
Haubenschild Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 fantastic job! , I think you have just inspired me to pick this kit up!
crazyjim Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Looking most excellent, Mike. I tubbed the COPO Nova I'm building but am stalled on the chassis until the big tires get here from Ma's Resin.
mrmike Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 Thanks Liam and Jim! I made some progress on the Nova today. The body is polished and foiled, the interior and chassis are complete and it is time for a mockup to check for fit and stance. So far, so good! Time to insert the windows and all the trim. More to come...
Timeline Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Looking good, are you going to use the hubcaps or not? Perfect color for Nova in my opinion.
mrmike Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Karl, yes I am going to use the hub caps. I spent some time today installing the windows and gluing the chassis and interior into the body. One thing I didn't like was the way the exhaust tips hung so far below the rear fender. My solution was to enlarge the mounting holes for the rear pipes slightly enough so that the exhaust was pushed up farther. I added the hood trim and hinges. More to come...
martinfan5 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 very nice Mike, nice and shiny, this may sound like a dumb question, I thought you could not clear coat after you polished?, if so what type of clear can you use?
