mackinac359 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Project Blue Star. I started with an original issue AMT White-Western Star, a resin hood and etched metal grille from Illini Replica Conversions (old stuff I bought back in '02). I stretched the frame, modified the sleeper crawil through a bit and added a few bits and pieces from the parts boxes. All the pics of the build are on http://public.fotki....ch-1/blue-star/ Thanks for looking! Tim
Jim B Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Very nice. I especially like the last shot. Quite realistic.
kwtrucker Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Tim, Very nice job on the Star. You've really caught the golden age of trucking with this project. I really like it. Doug
scale trucker Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 wow..very nice tim..is the sleeper done in alclad?
Chillyb1 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 That is a spectacular delight. The first picture is just captivating. I can't stop staring at it.
lapazleo Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Another fine build. I love Stars as much as you love red ovals.
mackinac359 Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Not Alcad but Alsa Mirra-Chrome spray. Tim wow..very nice tim..is the sleeper done in alclad?
chuckyr Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Looks great. That Alsa Mirra is kinda expensive.
Chuck Most Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Love it! I'll have to track down that metal grille- I'll need it for at least one. (The other will have its grille covered up by a Green Goblin. )

Truck parts Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Tim, Your builds are always outstanding, and I enjoy what you do in the model car mag. What trailer did you use for the pic?
Old Albion Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Tim, Those photo's look superb. An excellent subject and build. It really does have the 1970's look. Dave
Sergey Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Tim, I have noticed bottom exhaust pipe painted blue. Upps. But I like the pictures anyway. Like Doug said: "You've really caught the golden age of trucking!"
mackinac359 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Sergey, The pipe would have been blue - until it burned off... Tim, I have noticed bottom exhaust pipe painted blue. Upps. But I like the pictures anyway. Like Doug said: "You've really caught the golden age of trucking!"
truckabilly Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That´s a very nice truck & trailer. I like the overall color combination. It is the first time that I have noticed how low this sleeper actually is. The second picture looks like a day cab truck with just some box behind. Maybe it´s just a play of angles but sure looks cool. Jarda
mackinac359 Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 Jarda, That is how the old Mercury sleepers looked. The standard size was quite short. An optional taller sleeper (about 10 inches taller) was available as well as longer versions. Tim That´s a very nice truck & trailer. I like the overall color combination.
