crazyjim Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Another one finished today. I call it shifty because I used the Rustoleum colorshift paint on it.
kruleworld Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 say, that's a nice bike! well done chopper, was it box stock or did you add any details to it?
LAone Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 thats a nice color. did you shoot it out of the can or airbrush?
crazyjim Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Thanks, Walter. The whole front end (fork tubes, triple tree, handlebars and riser), foot pegs, shifter rod, downtube are scratch built. The kit gas tank was stretched by 1/2". Seat was sanded smooth. Pinheads were used to "bolt" the rear fender to the frame. The front fender is pinned the same way but from the inside. Brake, clutch and throttle cables, fuel line, ignition wires, battery cables were added. Other than that it pretty much the Crusader kit.
crazyjim Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 I decanted some and shot it through the airbrush, Luis. Straight out of the can shoots too heavy.
LAone Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 thanks for the reply. i shot my celica straight from the can and thought it was too thick. so now ill decant it from now on. thanks again. that color would look great on a lowrider...
crazyjim Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Yeah, I think it would. Do you do those real fancy lowrider paint jobs? Try the spoon deal with Plastikote black, grey and white primers. each one gives a completely different color. This bike was shoot over the black primer. Rustoleum also has a green colorshift paint that I didn't get yet. It's a whole world of difference when you decant it.
John Teresi Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Jim.....that is BEAUTIFUL......great job on this!!!!!
Cool Hand Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Nice one Jim,always like seeing other builders interpretations of the Revell choppers
crazyjim Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 Thanks John, Luke, and Joker. That's my 3rd chopper and I'm starting to really like those kits.
Bartster Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Sweet looking scoot, Jim! I'd like to see the other 2. Gotta love a Hog! And..............It's so SHINY!! OK, I gotta stop that, LOL.
PARTSMARTY Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) CRAZY JIM, EXCELLENT JOB-I LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT.I'VE BEEN BUILDING BIKES FOR YEARS.I HAVE BOTH RUST-OLEUM COLORSHIFT COLRS.ALSO SPAZ STIX WHO MAKES CHROME IN SPRAY MAKES A LOT OF COLORSHIFT SPRAY COLORS.AGAIN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BIKE. PARTS MARTY P.S. HAVE YOU EVER BUILT ANY REVELL 1/6-1/8 CHOPPERS.THE BIGGER BIKES ARE COOL ALSO. Edited March 15, 2012 by PARTSMARTY
surfjunke Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Absolutely beautiful build, Jim. Great paint & fine scratchbuilding.
fatkidd Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 looks good, Jim. I bet the 3 together look terrific...maybe build one of your sweet display cases to hold all 3.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Beautiful job, Jim. I love the handle bars, very similar to what I have on mine. Nice paint job too.
crazyjim Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 Thank you, Bart. The other 2 are posted here under glass somewhere. The first was red, white, and blue. Second one was burgundy kandy. Next one??? Thanks, Steve. And thank you, Marty. I've built only 1/12 bikes. Nice scale to play with. The front end was a pain, Steve, especially making the triple tree from styrene. Paint is just Rustoleum colorshift over Plastikote black primer. I didn't have the Pearl Ex powders when I painted it, but look forward to using that stuff on some other SHINY :) builds. Yo Fatkidd. I finished it in time for Billetproof. Each one is in it's own case. There's 3 more sitting on the shelf screaming to be built. Had to make those bars long, doc because I stretched the tank so much.
Danno Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Beautiful. Fortunately, I re-read the topic title ... the first time I misread it ... missed the "f" . . .
crazyjim Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 Thanks, Danno. If I would have missed the "f", they would have booked me.
Danno Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Thanks, Danno. If I would have missed the "f", they would have booked me. Yeppers, ole Bad Barney woulda got ya! Nipped it in the bud, he woulda. = That's humor, Jim ~ ~ ~ not you, CrazyJim, ... another Jim.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Jim, your bikes are looking great.......if you're having that much fun, give one of the large scale ones a try....lots more room for shiny paint. LOL
crazyjim Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 Thanks, Don. It's 1/12 scale - that's big for me. Going to the Billetproof show tomorrow? I plan on getting there by 9:00am.
